I haven't been approved yet - I just bought a PPO policy with GHI.

I'm using Dr Alan Geiss in Syosett. He's the best on LI and accepts GHI.

Keep in mind, GHI requires a 6 month superived diet though.

GHI PPO denied my surgery. I now have GHI HMO with GHI PPO as secondary. I have records of 6 months of Nutrisystem will that be enough?

You make me nervous ... why did you get denied with the PPO???

I'm not sure if Nutrisystem counts. I think it has to be a DOCTOR supervised 6 month diet. It has to be a visit with your PCP/reg doctor once every 4 weeks.

I have GHI HMO and my band was approved like.overnight. I went to the MD on Monday and Tuesday morning I got the call. I did have to stay overnight but then again this was two years ago. now I have been approved to get the extra skin removed also by GHI HMO this one took 2 weeks to get approval. I have been very pleased with this insurance company.

Thanks for the info. GHI PPO denied me 2 years ago saying that the surgery was not medically necessary. I was 120 lbs overweight with moderate sleep apnea and a history of diabetes. I went through the appeal process only to be denied again with GHI PPO. I am grateful to have the HMO now and I have my first doctors appt on June 12th with Dr Kwon. I hope I have as good and as quick a result as you did! Prayers are welcome!

That sucks - I've never heard of anyone having a problem with GHI.

I should know in the next 6-8 weeks. I'll let you know how it goes for me.

Best of luck this time around.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
