Lap Band in Mexico? Looking for an inexpensive alternative.

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at getting the Lap Band surgery. I've had friends go to Mexico; no horror stories...actually good experiences. But, I've been given some scary information from a doc in the states about re-doing bad work. I'm looking at Dr. Rumbault in Monterrey and Dr. Kuri in Tijuana. So far I can find "rave reviews" for both, but I'd like to get a clear picture before deciding...anyone know of "bad" experiences?

In my research I have read very good things about Dr. Rumbault in Monterrey but I'm not at all familiar with Dr. Kuri.

I have not gone for my surgery yet, but when I finally do go I have decided on Dr. Arturo Rodriguez in Monterrey. There are several on this board that have gone to him and I have yet to hear anything negative. He is also very personable... I have conversed with him and his office assistant, Marisol, several times. His website, in case you're interested, is Lap band surgery - Gastric Banding - Grupo Endro-Bariatrico Mexico

Good Luck!

I had Dr. Sanchez and Dr. Zapata in Monterrey Mexico. They have both done over 7000 bands, never lost a patient and have less than 1/2 percent complicatons. Dr. Zapata is the guru for this. I have heard good things about Dr. Rumbault but not Kuri. Just do lots of research.

Mine was 8500.00 and you can get it done right now including everything and free fills for life for 7500.00 and they also set you up with aftercare here in the states. Good luck and pm me if you have any questions.

Mexico has worked out great for a lot of people. On a previous poll I think I saw that more than half the members of the forum went to Mexico.

But just so you have more options to think about, I want to mention that my doc is just a little bit more, and he works in Denver. You can find a link to his office in my signature. Sometimes it can be difficult to find aftercare of you have had your band surgery in Mexico. For some people, this has been a serious issue. It's just something to think about before you choose your surgeon. And no matter what surgeon you use, anywhere, it is good to check into aftercare options in your local area before you have the surgery. If you live in a small town, you may find that this is a serious issue. You don't want to have to drive 500 miles to get a fill.

But if you think of these things and check it out, I am sure there are good solutions no matter which doctor you choose, so I think it will all work out.

I have the same doc as Mark here in Denver. Dr Kirshenbaum.... his price is $9950.00 so it's just a teeny bit more than MX but I think it's an affordable alternative to MX. He is a great surgeon and has many patients here on LBT.

I have my surgery scheduled with Dr Rodriguez in Mexico on June 12th. He sets you up with US doctors to help get your care after surgery. You don't have to go back to Mexico for fills. The cost of my surgery was $7700. They are great with getting you set up. Take time and research your options. You will find the option that feels right to you and you will know it. I am so excited that we have options!! Good luck!!!:clap2:

I am using Dr. R, too. in early July. Several people in my mom's office has used him and had nothing but great things to say about him. I was upset my ins. denied me at first, but it is nice not to have to deal w/ the insurance anymore. Let me know how your bands go w/ Dr. R! I can't wait to have my band!:)

Hi there...

I think that as long as you do your research and if at all possible, have a 1 on 1 consult, Mexico for surgery can be a great way to go. My husband and friend are both having surgery on July 18th in Tijuana Mexico with Dr. Ariel Ortiz. We went down and saw the facility, met with him, the Nutritionist and staff and are extremely excited about surgery. Dr. Ortiz (as alot of Dr's in Mexico) is a very qualified surgeon (he has proctored surgeries in the U.S.) so it's not a "back-alley-clinic" surgeon that we're going to. Like I said, whomever you go with....do you research. Horror stories can happen anywhere....not just Mexico. Good luck in your decision/journey!

I've known two people to get it done in mexico, 1 with great results (she also, claims tht 3 other family members had theirs done there also with good results). And the other person nearly died from complications and then had it reversed. I chose to go to my local clinic it's $5,000 more but,it's close and if there is any complications I don't have to goback to mexio. Good luck with your choice.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
