Variation in liquid stage times

Recommended Posts

I am still new to the forum, I was sleeves on the 23rd of Oct. just curious at the variations in what the surgeons order for liquid phases.

My phase 1 was Clear liquids. Started this just a few hours after surgery. For only 24 hours.

Phase 2 cream liquids. Only for 10-14 days depending toleration.

Phase 3 soft foods/purée 10-14 days depending toleration

Phase 4 regular food.

This is all less than a month before I was told I would be back to normal foods. Is that too soon? I see people much longer.

Also I'm very lucky to have had no problems in tolerating, except for Protein pudding which did hurt my belly at 4 days post op.

I was on regular foods as tolerated within two - three weeks. I had no problems.

Be kind to your sleeve and it will be kind to you, and chew, chew, chew! Good luck!

I too was on regular solids on day 15. It was a big learning curve. Now we are at week 7 and I'm still struggling with many solid foods, but it's manageable.

Mine is -

-2 weeks: clear liquids and skim/1% milk

-2 weeks: full liquids

-2 weeks: purees

-2 weeks: soft foods

then you gradually phase in regular food as tolerated. I'm a few days out from purees and I cannot WAIT to get to soft foods - I miss chewing!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
