My first fill tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I have my first fill. I am so excited! But... I'm also nervous wondering if this will hurt! Did it hurt you guys and did you feel pain with the tightening?

How much do they generally put in for a first fill and do you feel it as being effective?

I am definitely eating less food but does the first fill make a difference?

How many fills did it take you to get to your "point" of comfort for loosing weight?

@@danni#L The biggest thing you will fee during your fill is the pinch of the needle and the Dr. poking around for the port.

You won't feel the Fluid going in, and you may or may not feel any difference in the "tightness" of the band for at least the first week.

Dr.'s are different in the amounts they tend to put in during fills. My Dr.'s office was very conservative with the fills and put in only .5 to 1 cc at a time. There are some Dr.'s who might fill up to 3 cc, so you want to ask your Dr. when you go what they plan to put it. You should also ask them if your band was primed in surgery with any Fluid, as adding more will add to that amount of volume in the band.

Over the course of the next couple of weeks after the fill the fluid will make it's way around the ring and settle in, and at that point you might feel more restriction to the band, but you might not and may need more fills. On the flip side you may be just perfect after this fill everyone is different. There are some on the sight who have lost tremendous amounts of weight with no fills what so ever.

The best course of action is to write down your questions and be sure to ask them of the Dr. or the PA when you are in the office.

Don't worry about pain the discomfort if momentary and before you know it your all done.

Let us know how you do!

I was very nervous before my first fill.My nurse gave a small numbing shot before doing the fill. It was a slight pinch. She talked me through it and it was not bad at all. She made me do almost like a crunch-like movement so she could locate the port. I had about 5-6 fills ( one unfill ) before I was in my "green zone". I have a 10cc band and I am at 6.9. I have been here for the last 6months and very happy. My office makes you hang around after the fill to make sure you can drink a full cup of Water. I didn't mind because I didn't want to get home and be unable to eat/drink.

I didn't even feel my first fill. I was so nervous about it but didn't even feel it. The second time, tho, I did but only because my port had "tilted" according to the nurse practitioner.

I doubt it will be anything to worry about!!

When my surgeon puts the needle in, its painful but for only a second then its done. Kind of the degree of a bee sting. As for how effective the first fill is is really individual. Most require more than one though. I believe I've had 4 and think I'm in need of a booster.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences.

So I had my fill yesterday morning.. He filled the band all the way, and then removes Fluid. He said he does this all the way to crush all the fat cells around the band and then removes the fluid to 3 mls. He made me drink 2 cups of Water straight after and told be he was waiting for me to hear or feel a "gurgle" and then I would be fine. He also showed me some pictures of my actual surgery (that was cool but kinda weird seeing pictures of the inside of my body). Lol

The look and size of the needle... I almost died! Lol but it was a little painful when he was trying to locate the port and was feeling for the band.

The doc said 24hr liquid diet.< /p>

I have to go back in 2 weeks for another fill.

Very excited I am now!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
