Scale isn't moving

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I am 2 wks post op and the scale still isn't moving! I have lost 15 lbs since beginning my 3 day preop diet. 8 lbs since surgery. I have been going for walks and watching my calorie intake and following my plan. Why is the scale not moving!?

Your body is still in shock from the surgery. Do not worry, you will start losing as your body starts to recover. Really, it is a good idea not to weigh for a week or so. You are doing everything right. Also I gained 9 pounds just from the surgery fluids and it came off within a few weeks plus a lot more. Patience.

I am 13 days post op and I feel the same as you. I started my liquid pre-op diet on 10/17 and lost 9 lbs Then after surgery I lost another 8 pounds within 5 days after surgery. And I have stalled and fluctuate between gaining and losing a pound or two for the 8 days. I have only just started the soft foods. It is frustrating to have gone through this and not seeing much weight loss. I have a friend who has had the lap band tell me my body just needs to adjust and then I will see results, and I hope that happens soon! Any ideas to jump start the weight loss would be most helpful!

It may be a swelling and fluid-retention thing, or you may have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall a little early (which also involves Fluid retention). It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or more. But don't worry -- after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. If you're interested, here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again like crazy!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

Your scale is broken. !!

No, really.....it's what everybody said....give it time. Pretty soon you will be looking back in amazement on the journey as a whole...... and not remember any the the daily concerns.... ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
