Jennifer Rogers 111 Posted November 6, 2014 My surgeon told me that he removed 85% of my stomach, and what used to be the size of my two fists is now the size of my thumb. He said he used a 38 French??? Doesn't some surgeons use much smaller than that? Like a 32? I guess mine is the right size for me cause I still can only eat 1-2 Tbls per meal..if that. Can't imagine if it were smaller.
Elode 8,093 Posted November 6, 2014 @@Jennifer Rogers I just had mine done Monday and my surgeon used a 38 French also.
Essence46 493 Posted November 6, 2014 I honestly have no idea. I asked the doctor how much of my stomach he took and he wouldn't tell me. He did say he made my sleeve a little larger then most because he didn't want me to get too small. *shrug*
Megan00 38 Posted November 6, 2014 This is a great topic I wonder why are some peoples smaller & some larger do you think it depends on the persons weight?
Essence46 493 Posted November 6, 2014 (edited) Megan00 I think that plays a big part in it. In my case, the doctor said I was a little smaller than most of his patients. He said if he made mine the same size, I would lose too much weight so he made it a little bigger. Edited November 6, 2014 by Essence46
Jennifer Rogers 111 Posted November 6, 2014 This is a great topic I wonder why are some peoples smaller & some larger do you think it depends on the persons weight? I really don't know @@Megan00 I watched a video of the sleeve procedure on youtube and that surgeon simply said the size he was using is the common size they use in his practice. But as far as using a certain size according to weight, I was 237 the morning of surgery. So.... If that means anything.
Sleevarilla 169 Posted November 6, 2014 (edited) 36fr. The size difference between a 32fr and a 40fr is negligible. There is a picture guide around, if you care to google (use bougie size as your keyword). Mine, according to that chart, is roughly the size of a sharpie (without the lid) Edited November 6, 2014 by Sleevarilla
jessiquoi 623 Posted November 6, 2014 wow, i didn't even know there were sizes! thanks for bringing up this topic. another question to ask in my pre-op visit next week.
Recycled 2,182 Posted November 6, 2014 What size is your sleeve? Well.....last time I looked in there it seemed to be about a blah blah blah...... I have no idea. My Doc could tell me he used a Filipino 36-24-36 and I wouldn't know the difference or be able to do anything about it. Can I eat as much as before??? Hardly. Do I fill up quick?. Yep. Did it get rid of that "ghrenlin" hunger guy.....? For the most part, yes. Well then, I'm satisfied..... next question.

Rogofulm 2,440 Posted November 6, 2014 Wow! I never even knew there were sizes. Guess I should ask him in January at my 6-month. Not sure why, but it seems better to know more about your situation than less, right? Hmmm...
Forsythia 882 Posted November 7, 2014 I have no earthly idea. And really I don't care. I'm still losing weight, that's all that matters.
kikicoates78 220 Posted November 7, 2014 I think it's a great question. I never knew there was different sizes! I just started soft puréed and I had about 2-3 tbs and was full. I see mine the 10th, I'm gonna ask!
pinkbunies 359 Posted November 7, 2014 I was told it is a size 32.
Quest4TheNewMe 225 Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) My surgeon uses a 40F (French) bougie. 1 French = 1/3 millimeter That is the diameter of the bougie. So, it describes how big around, but not your ending volume. Edited November 7, 2014 by Quest4TheNewMe
