What size is your sleeve?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon told me that he removed 85% of my stomach, and what used to be the size of my two fists is now the size of my thumb. He said he used a 38 French??? Doesn't some surgeons use much smaller than that? Like a 32? I guess mine is the right size for me cause I still can only eat 1-2 Tbls per meal..if that. Can't imagine if it were smaller.

I honestly have no idea. I asked the doctor how much of my stomach he took and he wouldn't tell me. He did say he made my sleeve a little larger then most because he didn't want me to get too small. *shrug*

This is a great topic

I wonder why are some peoples smaller & some larger do you think it depends on the persons weight?

Megan00 I think that plays a big part in it. In my case, the doctor said I was a little smaller than most of his patients. He said if he made mine the same size, I would lose too much weight so he made it a little bigger.

I really don't know @@Megan00 I watched a video of the sleeve procedure on youtube and that surgeon simply said the size he was using is the common size they use in his practice.

But as far as using a certain size according to weight, I was 237 the morning of surgery. So.... If that means anything.

36fr.

The size difference between a 32fr and a 40fr is negligible. There is a picture guide around, if you care to google (use bougie size as your keyword). Mine, according to that chart, is roughly the size of a sharpie (without the lid)

What size is your sleeve?

Well.....last time I looked in there it seemed to be about a blah blah blah...... I have no idea. My Doc could tell me he used a Filipino 36-24-36 and I wouldn't know the difference or be able to do anything about it.

Can I eat as much as before??? Hardly. Do I fill up quick?. Yep. Did it get rid of that "ghrenlin" hunger guy.....? For the most part, yes.

Well then, I'm satisfied..... next question. ;)

Wow! I never even knew there were sizes. Guess I should ask him in January at my 6-month. Not sure why, but it seems better to know more about your situation than less, right? Hmmm...

I have no earthly idea. And really I don't care. I'm still losing weight, that's all that matters.

My surgeon uses a 40F (French) bougie.

1 French = 1/3 millimeter

That is the diameter of the bougie. So, it describes how big around, but not your ending volume.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
