Dumping syndrome! Help!

Recommended Posts

Wow, 2 days?? When was your surgery and what did u have done? It could be a few different things besides dumping....I had 2 horrible days of pain and nausea because I hadn't moved my bowels in like 3 or 4 days...it was shortly after my surgery. It could be a stricture or a bowel twist?

I have an appointment with the surgeon on dec. 9th to schedule surgery. I am already getting nervous and then I read this post lol. I hope it's worth all this. I just want to be healthy but afraid of some things I have been reading.

I actually chose the RNY for the negative reinforcement of the dumping syndrome. Just the fear of it helps keep me in line so far...lol The surgery does have some negative side effects that may or may not affect you, but so too does being overweight. Best advice I can give is learn all you can about the surgeries and the health issues you may be facing from being overweight and then honestly weigh them out against each other. I did a lot of research, read the good bad & the ugly and made my choice.

I tried turkey again the day after it just didn't sit well had nausea & some vomiting. It's been 2.5 almost 3 months since I got my RNY. I have trouble with chicken too it's just to stringy for me. I have been fine since Friday night & thru the weekend. I also do Fiber everyday in my Breakfast Protein Shake & if I haven't gone in a day or two I put Miralax in a drink. I like to pay close attention to all those types of symptoms not looking to kill my intestines, but thank you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
