I had my surgery 19/9. I have basically eaten alone since surgery. As I mentioned in another post I told only my husband & 2 teens. This week I am staying with my brother's family. How have others of you people managed eating so much less than a standard plate without telling about the band.?

"I had a really late lunch/early dinner/recent snack and it looks so good but that's it for me for now. Maybe later". Trust me. Most people don't give a rat's behind what you're eating. Nibble. Push it around. Change the subject. Nobody really cares. Be kind to yourself and eat what YOU need.

@@dalmania don't worry about it. The more obvious you make it that you are not eating or not hungry the more people will notice.

If you can serve yourself take a smaller plate and smaller portions, if someone comments just tell them you are watching your portions. Eventually they will notice weight loss so this is a good time to let them know that you are working on losing weight without disclosing you had an operation.

That is all you really need to say, you can tell them you are eating portion controlled food. If you are still on the mushy or soft phase of the diet, or you have your shakes with you then you can simply say that you are replacing a meal with a supplement.

More importantly don't let people make you feel that you need to disclose information that you don't want to disclose, and on the flip side don't be so obvious as to draw that attention to yourself.

I have run into people who obviously want others to know they have a "secret" and that only puts them more on the spot and those that are not in the know...want to know..and will gossip and snoop to find out. So if you truly want to be private then be just that. Keep it to yourself take care of your business and let others take care of theirs :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
