When will I feel normal again

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve done this past Monday November 3rd. When will I be able to stand straight up without feeling the pulling. What about the incisions not be so sensitive? I can only get in 1 oz an hour

You should feel much better in a day or two. Then better every day.

You should feel fully normal in 2-3 weeks. It goes much faster than I'm sure you can imagine right now.

Hang in there :)

Another week or so you should start feeling better each day. I didn't really start feeling "normal" til about 4 or 5 weeks.

You should feel better as each day passes. My surgery was on the same day as yours. If you have pain take your pain meds when needed.

Is it hard for you to stand straight up? I am bent over.

I had a bad reaction. To my first pain pills so switched to Tramadol that we have to crush up. My stomach is rolling like a thunderstorm. I've been walking.

By day 9 or 10 post-op, all the discomfort I was feeling went away. It took a few more weeks before I could lay falt on the bed or lay on my side without feeling a pulling sensation inside. I think I was back to my normal self by the end of a month.

The liquid pain meds I was given tasted so disgusting that I went without. My stomach was rolling and complaining all day, every day for that first 10 days. But everything quieted down after that.

I thought the same thing initially and my first night home was almost in tears wondering what I did to myself. At 6 days post-op, I no longer had pain each time I got up. Yesterday, 7 days post-op, I didn't need my pain meds at all! So believe me when I say, each day gets better!!! Keep your chin up and know that better days are ahead!

I had surgery last Tuesday and am feeling so much better!!! I am able to get all of my fluids in along with two Protein Shakes and am walking a mile a day. I can assure you that last week I could barely get anything down and had no interest in moving period. I didn't have that much pain and stopped taking meds the day after surgery. If you are that uncomfortable maybe you should check in with your Dr. Hang in there!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
