I got a call today that I was approved for surgery. I start Optifast on Monday and go in on the 25th for my RNY. This is everything I've wanted for years now. I've got it in the palm of my hands and I'm terrified all of a sudden. Yes, I WILL go through with it because I've put in so much time and gone through so many hoops to turn back now but holy cow...I'm so scared. This will be great for me in the long run. I can do this.....(?)

You absolutely CAN do this! I think many of us have those "Oh my Lord, it's actually going to HAPPEN" fears right before surgery. Truth be told, once I was out of the hospital, I don't feel much different, other than it makes me laugh at how little food it takes to make me feel full now- I had trouble believing that too. Keep us posted on how you're doing- I'm only 2 weeks post-op myself :)

I think all of us go through various steps and stages of acceptance. This is something many of us have prayed for, planned for, wished and dreamed for, and for it to become a reality is overwhelming. The emotions don't quite know what to do. For me, I was numb when my approval came through. 20 years and 3 separate attempts and finally I was approved. Part of me didn't want to get to excited, as I expected the insurance company to come back and say "oops, we made a mistake, no surgery for you". The other part of me was trying to grasp the concept that I was on my way to getting healthy, and dreaming of what the outcome would be. All I can say is cherish it all. The good, the bad, the process getting to where you are going and the journey to follow. Being scared is totally normal, regardless of how bad you want something...the unknown can definitely be scary! Best wishes for a healthy new you, and an amazing 2015!!!

You absolutely can do this!! I had my surgery 7 weeks ago. I've lost 42 lbs. I was terrified as well . The process of the surgery itself was with it all. I would do it again in a heartbeat . As fir post op. The discomfort is from the drainage tube. It's minimal at best. I actually imaged things would be a lot worse than what they were. It was nothing compared to my knees operation. I had years prior. Prayers sent. You'll be fine

You'll do great - my surgery was 8 days ago...I only had someone with me for one night and have been alone all week. You'll be truly amazed that it takes up your entire day taking all your meds, Vitamins and trying to get in all your Protein. I still cannot get all the protein I'm supposed to have. I just still feel too full. I'm making sure to walk at least 5000 steps each day. By the way, I'm 73 so if I can do it I'm sure you will both do great. God Bless You! You've finally made the decision to make your own health 1st priority!

Good Luck. I had my surgery 5 weeks ago. Im down 25 lbs from my starting weight. It is a totally different feeling to look at such a small amount of food and be totally full and satisfied. I never dreamed that would happen, but it is true. We are all nervous, excited, hoping for the best outcome.

Hi all! Surgery is in a short 11 days and I'm feeling much better about it all. I'm sure this will all be an emotional rollercoaster but as of now I'm excited to be on the losers bench! 14 day Optifast diet is actually going so much better than I expected. It's the end of day 3 and I'm feeling really great!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
