Anyone get/getting sleeved that is over 400#

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone has had the sleeve that has been over 400 pounds. I am wondering if there are extra complications to worry about and how much weight is likely to be lost

I was 414. The only special thing I did was a modified pre-op diet. I reduced my calories & increased my Protein the first week, the second week I did one meal a day and then yogurt or a Protein shake the rest of the day. My surgery was done laproscopically and I had no problems, no pain and no gas. I was up and walking in recovery. Spent 2 days in the hospital.

That's fantastic! My surgery date is Nov.19th I hope to have as perfect of a surgery as you. Thanks so much for responding to my post. Most people I have seen posting are half my size so I appreciate hearing from you and knowing your surgery went so well. I have been very nervous because of my weight being so high!

That is awesome we will be 1 day apart! I have to agree, the weight is definitely doing more damage! I wish you the best of luck jeanniebeannie and I hope you stay in touch so we can chat after our surgeries. How is your diet going? Is it liquid only like mine? I was struggling a bit until I got a big cup of ice chips to munch on that help soooo much with my cravings to snack.< /p>

Hi Jenn, thanks for the come back,...doing real good on the liquid diet, almost a week now, I just keep telling myself it is all for the better, then of course my knee's remind me that they are tired of carrying me! Going to pack my bag this week so I won't forget anything,..really haven't had a down day, which is great! Bought the book Alex Brecher wrote, takes you from the beginning thru after post-op. You can reach me at..cjc81@comcast.net...would love to stay in touch thru this journey.

If you fall just pick your self up and keep going,it is worth it, you have a full life ahead of you!

@@JeannieBeannie - if it's available in your area try Water aerobics. I started taking classes 3 - 4 times a week 4 years ago and it really made a difference. My range of motion increased as well as my endurance. My knees no longer hurt on a daily basis. Even my ortho was impressed.

Hi Blerdgirl,...thank you for the info,..going to start this week!!

If you find a class and it's too much at first, try just walking the pool for min - to an hour. The pool at my gym is 5ft at the deepest point. Sometimes after class I just walk back and forth or jog back and forth for while.

That's a fantastic idea! The gym I joined has Water arobics. I wonder how long we have to wait after the surgery to get in the water. I know I am sure going to miss my hot tub after surgery.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
