HAS ANYONE TAKEN B-12 INJECTIONS

Recommended Posts

Has anyone taken B-12 injections after the gastric sleeve surgery? I ask because I'm thinking about buying everything possible in the form of injections/needles. Also Biotin 10,000?

You will be administering the shots yourself?

B12 injections were an option for me, but I chose to go with the sublingual instead....a lot less hassle. You need an Rx for the injections and then you have to deal with the SHARPS dispensing protocols for the needles.

Taking the injections will be better for me instead of swallowing a bunch of pills on a daily bases. With the injection shots its only one to two times per week. I can handle that better. Right now I'm getting it done at a local clinic for $15 dollars per shot each. and i take three different shots twice per week. It costs Way too high for me to keep going that route so im planning on getting it as a kit and administer it myself. The only pill I will take is the Biotin 10,000.

@@daniela1975 with the injections you get 100 percent of the Vitamins in your body and quicker than the pills. I can't handle big long pills. I like it alot so far. You start to feel it within a matter of 15 to 30 minutes. Two times per week verses seven days per week...... thank you all for your comments :)

Just FYI, There is an alternative to injections and large oral pills. I take 500mcg sublingual B12 3-4x week. They are tiny tablets that dissolve under your tongue. My B12 level was high normal on my 6 month bloodwork. $11.25 for 250 tablets. I had surgery 10 months ago and I'm still on my first bottle. pretty cheap even if you did take them everyday.

I will be taking the B12 injections as well. Although, I've actually been doing so off and on for a few years. I give them to myself. I'm a paramedic so my company has no problems ordering the needles and syringes and sharps containers for me. Then I just take the full sharps container there for disposal when it's full. Which takes FOREVER, because I only give myself one injection a week.

I have major issues with taste and texture. I dislike anything chalky and the liquid sublingual b12 is HORRIBLE tasting to me. So, injections it is! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
