Heybrendacleo 48 Posted November 5, 2014 After much thought I have finally decided to get the gastric sleeve. For so long I thought that I could loose the weight on my own, but I can't. I've met with my surgeon to get the process started. His team has schedule ALL my appointments, and the last one is mid January. By that time the surgeon want to be loose between 20-30 pounds (closer to 30) to bring my BMI down, and he will do the surgery. I'm so excited, and stressed at the same time. It's going to be a challenge to loose this weight.

Heybrendacleo 48 Posted November 5, 2014 I am in a program that's why all the appointments were schedule. I've seen that the process has been long for others, but my surgeons team is making it seen like as long as I come to every appointment and loose the weight I should get a surgery date within a few weeks from the last appointment. I'm praying this is the case for me.

Heybrendacleo 48 Posted November 5, 2014 Wow! I'm sorry to hear that. Thankfully all my appointments are within the 3 months I have to loose this weight. Do you also have to loose weight before the surgery?
Eclectick 129 Posted November 5, 2014 My insurance required 6 months with NUT really ends up being 7 with the way the schedule goes..but this is actually how it works...for my insurance anyway. First visit with surgeon was end of May, the NUT appt. needs to be scheduled as soon as possible which will make your first appt. then every 30 days..no less no more you will need to see the NUT 30 days in between that, they send you for any other test that needs to be done...as for me I had to have a endoscopy done, a letter from my primary doctor recommending the surgery and a phyciatrist evaluation that is required by insurance. AFTER your last NUT visit you see the surgeon to go over your 6 month history with NUT and a date can be set. It usually takes 15 days or so to get all paperwork to insurance and get approval. Then between the next 15 or so days waiting....the anesthesiologist requires a medical clearance which consist of an EKG and blood work. Still a lot of work for those 6 months..and very expensive with co-pays and deductibles..but the end, the result will be fabulous!!

inspired 3 Posted November 6, 2014 Hello! I am also starting my journey. I meet with my surgeon on November 18. I am so excited! Back in April my PCP suggested surgery but I told her let me try on my own first then we will discuss. Six months later I weighed more than my initial visit lol. I hope this is a smooth process. I was going to have the surgery back in 2010/2011 but the date kept getting pushed back and then the surgeon changed and that scared me so I cancelled. Best wishes on everything. Heybrendacleo 48 Posted November 6, 2014 That's about the same time me and my PCP first talked about it! Lol. At first I was interested in the lap band but my surgeon said he WILL NOT do it for me, because the success rate for my size isn't that high. Luckily I already started looking into the gastric sleeve. I wish you the best also!

inspired 3 Posted November 19, 2014 Hi Everyone! I met with my surgeon, Dr. Gorecki at NY Methodist Hospital. Everything went really well. I happy and very pleased with my choice. I was able to make all of my appointments today(psychiatric, nut, pulmonary etc.) . BUT... I hit a snag. He requires 6 consecutive physician supervised weight appointments. I scheduled an appointment with my PCP directly after my app with Dr. Gorecki so that I can get the referrals and make the appointments. Well my PCP won't do the supervised visits. She is accustomed to the nutritionist doing them. So now I have to find a new PCP who will do the supervised visits. Hopefully I can get this done by the end of the month. NaomiAus 104 Posted November 26, 2014 Hi! It's great to see other people like me just starting out with this journey. I'm very much like you, and for a very long time did not want to get surgery and thinking that I could do it all by myself, and I am able to lose weight by myself, but only so much before I slip up and the vicious cycle starts over. I had been thinking about for awhile and then I had a couple of health scares which were the final push. I need to wait until the end of October 2015 for my insurance to cover the surgery and then from what my surgeon said it'll only be a couple of month doing appointments before the surgery. It's fantastic that hopefully you can have yours done at the beginning of next year! That's great! Good luck to anyone with surgery coming up soon or anyone else just starting out!
