Logging food after eating out

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, my husband and I went to a little chain diner known around SC. The Clock. How in the world do I log what I ate from there? I ordered chicken salad (no bread, no anything, and of course, I have LOTS leftover.). But I have no idea what ingredients they use. ???? I feel kinda dumb asking, but I really don't know how to do this. Thanks!

Relax, it's not like medicine dosages or anything. Just get it close. Guess the weight, light, dark, skinless, no creamy dressings etc etc. A few grams of seasoning is not gonna make a big difference. You're doing it right stayin away from the fried breading and the unhealthy sides. In this case, close is good enough. ;)

Have you started using http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ (MFP) yet? They don't have nutritional information specific to The Clock, but they have lots of restaurant grilled chicken salads listed. Pick one that's probably close to the one you had. As with all salads, though, most of the calories are in the dressing. For example: Longhorn Steak House has great salads, right? But if you look at the nutritional info on their dressings, their Balsamic Vinaigrette is 270 calories with 29 grams of fat. Yikes! Add that to a steak salad and you're up near 1,000 calories in one meal! By comparison, their Bleu cheese dressing "only" has 160 calories and 15 grams of fat. But the Raspberry Vinaigrette has only 60 calories and 0.5 grams of fat, plus 14 grams of carbs. So if you haven't already, do try logging your food on MFP. You'll be amazed at how easy it is to track your daily intake and exercise. Good luck!

And I wanted to clarify...the kind of chicken salad I had is the kind that you would normally put on a sandwich. Mixed with mayo, onions, etc. I only had about 1Tbls, but I wanted to make sure I track every bite I put in my mouth.

Also call them !!!! Most restaurants have nutritional information. Call them and ask them for the nutritional info on what you ate. Then divide it by what you ate of it :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
