Scheduled for Sleeve 12/19/14.... but considering bypass.

Recommended Posts

Ugh, why is this decision so hard? Just put in a call to the doctor today to see what he recommends. I need to know now, so that if I decide to change my mind we can get the insurance approval switched.

Anyone in the same situation? What made you decide between the sleeve and the rny?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I had the sleeve (am 6 weeks out) and never waivered on my decision pre-op. Until I had surgery. I did notice that I can eat almost anything but the few things that make me sick are a a great deterrent. I could probably use some dumping syndrome to keep me away from candy. I also think it would have been nice to have the reduced absorption. I've been a little frustrated with how slow the weight loss has been. With RNY, it would be faster. It's a more complicated surgery but from what I hear, the recovery is about the same.

I don't regret my surgery but now I think I could have gotten more bang for my buck with bypass. Give it some good thought and make the decision that is best for you. I would ask people from both sleeve and RNY message boards. You'll get both sides.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
