What's for breakfast?

Recommended Posts

What does everyone eat or drink for Breakfast? I am looking to maximize my Protein intake in the morning and am looking for good and healthy options. My go-to now is a protein pudding that is really delicious, It is just too sweet to eat every day for breakfast. This is a drastic change post-op for me since sweets were a "hot button" food for me prior. Any ideas or recipes would be most helpful.

I have the Quaker's Weight Control oatmeal for breakfast every morning with a little bit of honey mixed in. It has 7 grams of Protein and it's sweet enough that I really enjoy it, but not so sweet that my sleeve gets upset. She doesn't like sweets, lol, so finding the middle ground for me was important.

Because I sometimes have trouble with solid Protein in the early AM, I occasionally have hummus. Most days I have cheese sticks. Yesterday I had scrambled egg but chewed very slowly.

I usually have sliced sirloin steak wrapped in a romaine lettuce leaf. Add mustard and sugar free pickle relish. Delicious, low calorie, and high Protein.< /p>

When it's hot, I do a cold Breakfast shake. I use milk and unflavored Protein powder with some thawed frozen fruit. I usually just use the fruit juice from the frozen fruit. I drink my 1/2 bottle of Kombucha every morning to keep my digestive track healthy and moving.

Now that it's cooling off, I'll switch to Hot drinks or oatmeal. This morning I had a low sugar hot chocolate with unflavored Protein Powder and my 1/2 bottle of Kombucha. I'm going to bring in some low sugar oatmeal tomorrow and mix Protein Powder in it with a dash of milk.

I rarely have time in the morning to cook and eat eggs. It's just easier for me to grab something quick that I can carry to work and prepare there. I'm so lucky that my job allows me to eat at my desk and we have a microwave.

Blessings,

Kathleen

Today I had a 1/2c. of overnight oats (this one: https://dashingdish.com/recipe/carrot-cake-overnight-protein-oatmeal/) which has 12 gms of Protein and was super delicious and filling. And coffee. Most days I have Greek yogurt with some kind of crunchy mix-in, like All Bran or Cheerios. And coffee. Weekends is usually a cheese omelet or Protein pancakes with turkey bacon. And coffee.

I had a banana and a bowl of Cereal at 8:45 after I finished working out. I was starving at 10 so I had a few Ritz crackers with Peanut Butter. It’s 11:45 and I am hungry again.

Thanks for all of the great ideas! I know I need to mix it up a bit so I don't get burned out on one thing.

My usual breakfasts are: sugar-free Protein pudding- I add 3 scoops of Protein Powder to instant pudding which adds about 85 grams of Protein and mix in my Ninja. This will give me about 6 servings with about 16 grams of protein per serving. I also have about 1 oz of sliced turkey or chicken (not the greatest for breakfast)

Second is Greek yogurt and protein mix -not my favorite but high in protein

Third is egg beaters and with a turkey sausage patty

My fourth is a Protein shake with blueberries or raspberries - This is my fallback meal when I know I don't have time to prepare anything else.

You can make egg muffins and freeze them individually. What you put in them is up to your taste. I like candian bacon and green chilis in mine. Zap them in the microwave and they are good to go! I also eat cottage cheese sometimes for Breakfast.....it is high in Protein.

Most mornings I have an omelet with one egg & 1/2oz. Monterrey Jack cheese, cooked slowly so it's not too dry.

I made crust less quiche (eggs, spinach, turkey sausage, cheese, unflavored Protein powder, milk and a little pancake mix). Cut into squares and freeze individually. Throw in the microwave for 30-60 seconds, grab and go. The pancake mix stiffens them just enough so you don't need utensils.

Other favs are homemade Protein pancakes with sausage, Protein Bar, Bob's Red Mill 10 grain hot Cereal with a little vanilla Protein Powder and blueberries, huevos rancheros, and apples with Peanut Butter. But the steak wrapped in lettuce sounds delicious!

@@Rogofulm They are, hands down, my favorite pre-mixed Protein shake, In fact they are far better then any powder I have tried. They are definitely my fall back breakfast fix.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
