Was anyone sleeved outpatient?

Recommended Posts

I had an internal bleed so I was in the hospital for 4 days and needed 3 blood transfusions.

I was sleeved outpatient on Sept 8, 2014. Then stayed overnight in the hotel, went back in the morning for fluids and a recheck and my hubby drove me home. I did great and still am doing great! I never 2nd guessed my doctors capabilities. Dr. Billings is amazing and I trust him 100%. I've also had several other surgeries that were day surgeries. So, it really wasn't an issue with me at all. I checked in at 6 am and was released by 7 pm. The only reason I stayed so late was because I always tend to over sleep the anesthesia. It was a great nap. Ha ha!

I could hardly tolerate a drop of Water first day, I was kept on iv fluids for 24 hours. Had swallow study to check leak next day and then went home. I did not have vomiting next day, and could tolerate some fluids.

Mine was outpatient as well. I think my surgery was around 9:30-10am and I was home by 8pm (I live a little over an hr away from the hospital) I was very fortunate though and had no pain of any kind. I went in knowing I was going to have outpatient surgery, but they told us ahead of time it's possible we might have to stay depending on how we're doing afterwards.

Best of luck!!!

I was an outpatient at a small surgical center that seems pretty much devoted to WLS related procedures (I had my upper endoscopy there too). In at 6 a.m. and released 23 hours later. The center had multiple large recliners, which is where I spent all of my post op time when I wasn't circling the nurses desk or walking to the bathroom.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
