Starting My Journey To A New Me!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I joined this group 2 weeks ago and love it thus far, there are so many supportive people here. I have considered getting the lap band for years, I have been yoyo dieting for 15 years, I now have a 9 month old son and have decided I need to get the weight off and keep it off so that I am here for the long run for him. He was my motivation to move forward with the process. Im also done with the joint pain, fatigue and everything else that comes with being overweight. Years ago it was for vanity, but now Im doing it for a healthier me.

I went for my initial consultation at True Results-Houston 2 weeks ago, I have completed all of my insurance requirements and just waiting on all the paperwork to be submitted to the insurance BCBSTX which I hope happens this week. I am hoping for a December surgery date, because Im ready to get my new life started plus I've paid my maximum out of pocket so everything is covered at 100% which is always a perk. So Im keeping my fingers crossed. Im nervous, excited, scared all at the same time. I was ALL excited before the ball got rolling, now that its rolling Im nervous. Im a Nurse Practitioner so sometimes knowing too much is not a good thing.

So I just wanted to introduce myself instead of just lurking around. Good Luck to everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
