I vote do it! By Thanksgiving Day you should be able to go to your in-laws and relax while sipping nice, warm turkey broth. Instead of stuffing yourself silly, you can sit back and reflect on this wonderful holiday and all of the things you are thankful for, including your new tummy and the years you are adding to your life with your beautiful family. Lots to be thankful for, I think. Good luck in your decision. :)

I know you already said you are going ahead with it, but thought I'd chime in anyway. I think it's a good decision!

I had my sleeve December 19. I was on a 2 week liquid diet before, so pretty much the entire holiday season was not about food that year. I wanted to get a jump start on a new years resolution that I could keep for once. I've never been sorry I did that, and I didn't miss the food, and still don't. I felt pretty miserable but still went places and spent time with my family. Food always played such a big part of every gathering, and I learned that it really doesn't have to. I bet you won't regret it either!

I had my surgery last year the day before Thanksgiving. I don't remember Thanksgiving at all..... and wouldn't change a thing. 105 pounds down... Not too bad. :)

Knowing what I know now, I would do it in a heartbeat. My life is sooooo much better since surgery. It gave the 2nd chance I needed.

I wouldn't wait...... Focus on family, having fun, start a new tradition? On TG. Don't make food or what you think you're missing out on the focus.

I say "go for it"...you will be glad you did and never look back! It is so nice to really not "worry" about what will be served for Thanksgiving. My family and I will be camping and I will eat a few bites of whatever....lol Love my sleeve!!

My husband had his surgery schedule for our wedding anniversary! It's a great way to remember the surgiversary, convenient. But more than that, I had already taken time off of work to take care of him. It's actually an advantage to have your family off work and ready to help you around or with simple things if you need the help. It makes a world of difference, and well makes up for the missed traditional pig-out feast. It will also start to train your family that you are going to have a different relationship with food forever, and that celebration does not necessarily mean buffet style feasting all the time.

Good luck with your journey whatever you decide!

I will be the lone dissenter! LOL. I wouldn't do it at that time, only because I wouldn't want everyone else to "celebrate" Thanksgiving by picking me up from the hospital and then taking care of me. That's just me, though! Even if my family said they didn't mind, I still wouldn't do that to them, because I know how much they do enjoy Thanksgiving.

This is my EXACT reason why I didn't want to do it then! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

It doesn't matter now though because I just got off the phone with the surgery scheduler and she's changing my date and calling me back with a new one. And I didn't even ask them too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
