I would go for it. I have my second round of plastics scheduled the day before Thanksgiving, so I'll be too high to really be eating anything on the holiday. I will be 14.5 months out from surgery at that point and I don't care in the slightest bit that I won't really want to eat anything. My relationship with food is totally different than it was before surgery- I can have it or I can skip it and either way it's ok.

Good luck! :)

Believe me, you will have no interest in eating Thanksgiving dinner. You should be fine to chill on the couch and sip your water/protein shake/chicken broth...whatever. I had my surgery December 20 and was perfectly happy relaxing on the couch at Grandma's house on Christmas Day. Even if you don't feel up to whatever family gathering there is, there will be many other Thanksgivings to enjoy.

I was actually scheduled for surgery in January, but when I had a window of opportunity to take off work around the holidays I jumped at the chance and moved my surgery up 20 days, even though it meant missing a good friend's funeral and not being able to help with Christmas stuff. Just go for it.

Thank you! I need to hear that. I just spoke to my husband about it. I'm gonna go forward with it on the 25th. If I'm feeling up to it I'm going to go to my in laws for the gathering. And if not I'll stay home and he's gonna go with our kids.

I can't believe this is really happening. IN 3 WEEKS!!!

Last year, I had my sleeve on December 23, and came home on Christmas day. My daughters did the holiday thing with their significant others' families. Then on New Years, my gentleman friend and I hosted the grandkids at our home in the afternoon. That way, my kids and grandkids got their Christmas holiday and I got my peace and quite and broth and Jello.

Plus, the little ones enjoyed that second round of presents. It worked out well for everyone. For Christmas dinner for just me and my man, we celebrated two week-ends before. It was my last full meal before I started my pre-op liquid diet.

Good plan! There's nothing wrong with making this "all about you"...at least for a little while. And your family will get to do their thing, regardless. I'm very excited for you ????

I purposely scheduled mine for 2 weeks before thanksgiving so that I wouldn't gorge myself. It happens to be my favorite holiday.

So prior to starting my pre-op diet, I went ahead and fixed a few of my favorite Thanksgiving items for my coworkers and we had an early Holiday. Now I've had my dressing and pumpkin pie fix and I'm choking down the shakes and Clear liquids for pre-op!

I say definitely go for it! Get your new life started ASAP!!!

Hi Cryss,

I am scheduled for the same day as well. actually chose that day

Here's why: yes it is before thanksgiving

I am going to prepare some things before and freeze and then they can cook it

my sister is doing turkey and ham. It also saves 2 of my vacation days because those are paid holidays for me.

I figure when I come home on Wednesday everyone will be available to help me if needed because they are off Thurs/Friday

and the best part is I will be in good shape for the Christmas/Holiday/new Year.

We can be buddies if you like

Those are just my thoughts. Good Luck!! :D

Take Care

Sharen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
