45 days until surgery... it's been a long road.

Recommended Posts

I am getting so excited that I am finally going to get the surgery done. For years I talked myself out of it, and then my ex husband refused to allow me to do it. "I would get skinny and not want him anymore." Now, I am at a good point in my life and I am scheduled for the surgery 12/19/14. Here's my issue:

I was originally scheduled for the surgery on 9/2/14, however I unexpectedly lost my job on 7/1/14. Due to finances, my hubby and I decided to cancel the surgery, and honestly I wasn't sure I would be able to do it - EVER. However, I was able to find a job that is willing to work with me and the time off I will need after surgery to recover.

When I started the program, I did everything just like I was supposed to, drinking habits, slower eating, cut out soda and I even lost about 20 pounds. When I had to cancel everything, I went back to old habits and gained all of that back... I am so mad at myself. I am afraid the surgeon is going to tell me we can't do it now... I am working diligently to reestablish the new habits and I am determined, so I know all will work out okay.

I hope you all are having a good day!

Kelly

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
