Anyone Banded In Belgium W/dr Dillemans?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am thinking of getting banded with DR Dillemans in Bruges with European Obesity Care. I can hardly justify the cost of surgery here in the UK as it is double the cost of Belgium including travel and hotel. I can buy a package after care for 8 weeks in Birmingham or just choose to get fills as I need them. Has anyone else done this and if so can you let me know what your experience has been? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Lucy

Nope I was banded in Paris with Dr Anfroy, because of the cost issue. I believe that Dr Dillemans is a very skilled surgeon, but be prepared for him to say that you might do better with an RNY (Gastric bypass) so do a bit of homework before you go and be sure that you're making the right decision for you.

I was banded in September 2006 by Dr Dillmans.

All went fine (had a discussion about a RNY, I declined, gone ahead w/ lap band). I've had one fill in London, 2nd fill due on Saturday).

I'd lost 20kg by Easter, been stable since and have been travelling with work so resisted fill (throwing up on aeroplanes is seriously unfunny).

For the money, it seemed great, hospital was good. I went by myself and was VERY bored in the hotel but otherwise it was fine.

I had my band fitted with Dr Dilleman's over a year ago and he never mentioned an RNY to me but, in my room there were another two ladies both who were a lot larger then me and one had the band the other an RNY. What we could gather is, he goes by your diet. If your diet is healthy but a big eater, he offers the band, if your weight seems to be from a poor diet then it's the RNY offered. May be wrong.

I was banded by Dr Dillemans in 2005, and now my doctor is ending me back to get it out. It has done nothing for me, I weigh more now than I did when I had the surgery. I went to Manchester for my fills after I returned from Belguim, and the specialist there said, that i cannot be sick (which I constantly am) becuase when you throw up, it tightens the band and eventually it will become so tight that no food will pass through at all. I am not trying to put anyone off having surgery because everyone is different, I'm just letting you know my personal failure story.

Hi

I was banded with Dr Dillimans back in 2005 to I have now had 7 fills which the last 2 were with Anne Diamonds consultant anyway, I have lost 5st and have been sick many times. I have never heard of the band tightening due to being sick if anything it would end up loose or splitting. If your are being sick each time you eat them may be one, your trying to eat too much or your band is too tight. If you have not lost anything could this be due to the kinds of food you are eating. The band is a tool to help you lose weight you still have to watch the amount of callories you are having.

I try to eat fruit and veg, but i am always sick, it's not what I eat, I know what a balanced diet is.

Yes it is a toll to help with weight lose, but it does not always work, not with everyone.

I got my band in May by Dr Dillemans. I did alot of research and found him to be one of the best doctors out there.

From start to finish I have been really pleased with the service and care I have received.

I've lost 10ib's so far and that's without my first infill. Having that on Saturday!

Anyhows for anyone thinking of going to dr dillemans his assistant for international patients is marc van de ryse who's email is almar@telenet.be

Heresded I think you are right the type of surgery best for your eating habits, I have quite a healthy diet but over eat hence he thought band was best.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
