I thought for sure I would be in the hospital 1 day!

I was sleeved on October 30th and somehow figured that I would get to go home that day or the very next day. I was WRONG! they kept me 3 days and almost kept me a 4th! I wasn't in pain (at least not from the surgery). In fact, from what I can tell the surgery went very well.

Apparently, when I was in recovery I was sooo tired that I would only wake up to say that my back and my chest were in pain. Well I am rather large chested and I guess laying on a hard flat surface with no bra was not good for the muscles in my back or chest. I don't know if they kept giving me pain medicine - I can only assume so. I kept tossing and turning on the gurney/bed trying to get to a more comfortable position. Obviously, the incisions in my abdomen were of no concern. When I finally found a good position, I was sure to let the nurse know (It was on my left side). My surgery was around 10am and I didn't get to my room until around 6pm.

I was very lucky, I ended up in a room all to myself (not sure if this had anything to do with me yelling about my chest and back in recovery). My nurses were all very good to me. They made sure I had everything. Helped me walk, counted my fluids, helped me to the restroom and took my blood several times. I heard my blood count was low and they needed it to be stable before I went home.

I threw up 3 times which was more like large spit ups rather than a normal throw up. They kept asking me if I was nauseous. I wasn't. They didn't want me to go home until I wasn't nauseous. Turns out the anti-nausea medication was making me throw up! Good thing we figured that out because I would have been there another day.

I know it sounds like a lot but the pain was almost nothing. The surgery was really much easier than I expected and I haven't really been in any pain. My biggest surprise was how exhausted I have been since surgery. That and the removal of the leak tube felt like an alien leaving my body the weirdest experience ever!

OMG yes the alien tube, worse pain I felt in years, even labor didn't hurt that bad.

Glad your home and hope resting well, the exhaustion will continue a few days until you can get all that Fluid in like they want you to. Mine has been 8 days now and I'm still sore in the insissions but my exhaustion has been lifted. At least this morning I feel I can do many things I couldn't do before.

Rest as much as you can and use your pain meds, I got a large bottle liquid elixir and still have 1/2 of it. So won't take long just hang in there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
