Surgery Date-January 8, 2015

Recommended Posts

I'm excited about the outcome, it's just the being put to sleep part I'm scared of as I've never been in hospital before :))

that's understandable....you'll be fine :)

@@da50bear Good luck with Optifast! After the first 2-3 days I've found it to be pretty easy. Yes real food would be better but I like them.

misformimi- I am doing just fine. Pretty excited to get this done tomorrow! I had a couple days of doubt, but I am over it.

How are you? You must be on your liquid diet? I found it excruciatingly hard!

@@MBM1Forever,

Hey,

I'm glad you are doing well....I am on the liquids. The only way I'm surviving is that I get to have a modest dinner and pudding and popsicles, sugar free of course. My date got moved back to the 15th from the 22nd if you can believe. I'm glad its earlier but I'm a planner, so as soon as they gave the holler, I'm making plans that all have to rescheduled. Oh well. I'm nervous and can't believe I'm doing it. Good thing I followed my first mind and started the pre-op diet on the 1st, so now I'll ready for the date change anyways...Phew! Sorry for the long answer. :)

How are you? Glad to be on the other side! I know I am. So far, I can eat pretty much anything with no sensitivity. By that, I mean following the guidelines. No throwing up at all! I am down around 10 from surgery day given that I gained 15 lbs in Water weight from the surgery! Ha ha.

@@MBM1Forever, Hey Girl. Me too. So glad it's over and done with. The surgery part that is. No throwing up. Minimal nausea like twice. I added soft eggs in egg drop Soup because I was having trouble sucking down all those shakes but wanted to get Protein. Ugh. I was down 7.5 and that is like miraculous! Sometimes, I can't believe I did it and that the surgery itself worked....I kept thinking mine was gonna be the botched procedure! Or that I would jump off the table as they were wheeling me back!! I was happy with my surgeon, the care I received and the hospital experience in general. I'm so tired I could cry. I've got another week or so off work. I've been making like an infant!! :-) :-) :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
