I take a statin, an antidepressant, and heartburn medicine. I also take Iron, a multi, and Calcium citrate.

I have been crushing up the meds and was wondering if I had to and if anyone has any tips for ingestion? Can pharmacies make my meds into suspensions?

Please share your experiences. I am 4 days post op.

A lot of these meds are available in chewable. Ask the pharmacist. I was surprised at how many prescriptions and supplements are available in chewable AND/OR liquid! Good luck!!!

I really depends on what you're taking. Many drugs have to be taken whole; not crushed or broken. Usually, extended release meds. As for Vitamins & supplements, most come in chewable or liquid form. Some of the bariatric Vitamins are really good, so you might want to check out those. Bariatric Advantage has Iron in chewable form as well.

I've never had any issues swallowing pills since surgery. I can take Mucinex, which is huge. But I know many people do have a problems getting them down. You will figure it out ;)

I haven't tried taking them whole. I just assumed I couldn't.

My surgery was 10/28 (last Tuesday) and after surgery I haven't taken a Nexium or Zantac (and no heartburn but he did repair a sliding hiatal hernia). Also, surgery had my stomach so swollen that I really couldn't think of taking a whole wad of pills so I didn't and BP has been fine, and had stopped Zoloft before surgery, did start taking my hormones and chewable Vitamins again yesterday.

Not crushing any of them just if they seem a bit more than I want to swallow I do cut them in half.

I was also told to crush all my meds after my lap band surgery. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how long I should crush them for? They taste horrible even with the applesauce I put them in

Talk to your nut and surgeon. I was able to take anything as small as a baby aspirin after 3 days, but as we know, most of the pills we take are horse pills lol. I was able to take them after 4 weeks

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
