Yes, that's what I use, the unsweetened one.. 1 Cup is only 30 calories!

Also...pouches are fickle...I have named mine Ms Diva...she definately prefers warm and hot to cold, so I am going ot start drinking decafe falored teas..yesterday I started putting a teaspoon of Steviea in my shakes too...it made a world of differeance!

If you really feel dehydrated get some pedialyte.. It absorbs quickly. I was very sick during pregnancy, and it was the only thing that I could get down that absorbed quicker than I could throw it up.

I've been having body aches the last two days and after some Isopure tea, B12, and a multi Vitamin I'm feeling better. I really think it was the b12!

Id like to say this, first people, please avoid diagnosing someone, youre not a doctor having WLS does not make you an expert.

I would like to ask didn't everyone have to use the shakes for weeks before your surgery? It seems like a lot of people are saying they started their shakes for the first time after surgery. I am kind of flabbergasted ( stupid word I know) that there are so many different programs and surgeons that can differ greatly their pre-surg regimen. Ive tried over 15 different kinds of powders and ready mades so far and im still a ways out. I know that some people change taste after surgery, that's fine, but if you didn't start shakes and drinks until after surgery, well, Someone let you down big time. Second thing that concerns me is people seem to go off their diets and eat or drink things they aren't supposed to. Why would you go through this and just arm yourself with failure?

I mean everything from drinking regular Soup broth, on the liquids phase ( its a big no no from my team) to putting sweetened condensed milk in your shakes? that's pure sugar, worse its almost pure corn Syrup, why not just squeeze in some hersheys chocolate too! Im very curious, my team when I first went in gave me a three ring binder full of guides, information, lists of shakes and drinks, schedules and more.

Did I just get lucky or what? I assumed everyone did the research and got all this information ahead of time. Im not picking on anyone, what you do with your life is totally your decision period. I really am interested in the pre surg education, and Since I am determined to not fail, I am looking at all the traps and pitfalls, I truly believe forewarned is forearmed. Ive seen people complain they aren't losing enough weight, then they admit they aren't going to the gym or exercising at all. Do a lot of people secretly believe the surgery is a magic bullet? how many times is everyone told the surgery is just a tool, you still have to do the work. Im very confused, I know everydeals with things differently, but it seems like a lot of cheating going on. My surgeon told a story to me about a post op patient who wound up back in surgery after tearing their pouch, they went to mcdonalds on the way home from the hospital, and got chicken nuggets because they wanted to see if they would fit. For me, yes I know this is personal, but for me it seems like if youre going to go through this, I know its hard as hell, but please gove yourself every chance to succeed, its that old movie script saying "failure is not an option." I am 7 days out.

My Fluid drinking is akin to a military deployment. You have to line up all your equipment for battle.

I have all the liquids set into 6 ounces per hour. That's 24 oz for morning and 24 oz for afternoon. Then the 3 meals each 4 oz of a Protein shake. At first I started with 1 oz little cups and one per 15 minutes. Now I have cups with makings in sharpie on the side. I keep tick marks on a journal. This Fluid thing is high stakes friends. No wondering around or surfing online for an hour without drinking. Every awake moment requires a sip every 5 minutes. Once I got on this mind set I feel fantastic. I actually feel better then before surgery. My daily fluid intake including Protein shakes is 50 OZ which is enough to make me function well. I will built up to 64oz over the next two weeks.

Please try to get a organization system that works for you. Drinking when you feel like it doesn't work. This is your full time job right now - Sip, sip, sip!

The previous post did resonate with me. We have to be careful with ourselves. I heard a story one patients went to a County Fair 5 days post op and decided to eat a corn dog. Burst her pouch and nearly died. Back to surgery and square one. How stupid is that! Yes, there are different post op diets but like learning how to read, there are different approaches. Sticking with one is half the battle. I too believe giving up the control and following what we are told is so crucial because in truth we don't know what we are doing. The experts have done it 100s or 1000s of times before. This is lowly one for us.

I too thought some of the diets were odd compared to my own orders, but I was also confused because my liquid diet phases varied so much from others. I am 17 days PO and I'm already on soft foods. (Per orders) I've not had any issues with any foods to this point. Cheating is only cheating yourself. But a lot of surgeons or weight loss teams just do things differently.

People are just human.. we make mistakes sometimes.

I have found coconut Water to be nice cause I use to get thr dry mouth too and also liquid form of vit B12 helps with energy :)

I went threw this as well, about three weeks after surgery I was so tired that it was rediculous. It turns out that I no longer needed to take blood pressure Meds and the reason I was so tired was low blood pressure. As soon as I stopped taking blood pressure Meds. I felt better.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
