I suppose I am just looking for some feedback. For the last few days I have been getting belly aches and feeling very tired every time I eat. I am 17 days postop and eating soft and mushy foods. Since I had the band previously, I know my soft foods and how to fully chew, so I don't think that is the issue. I don't have any pain, it's just achy like mild nausea. I am eating very slow, and I have noticed that I really just put the spoon down and stop rather than a full feeling so I don't think it's an over stuffing issue, and I hardly eat 2-3 tbsp of foods at this point. Any ideas? I have noticed that it's more common and worse if I eat eggs, so I just don't eat them. I'm just confused, not sure if this is supposed to be common or not. I know I've heard that nausea is expected, but it wasn't that bad until I started soft foods, had a little nausea with dairy while I was on full liquids but not like it is now. Any one else having this issue?

Your fatigue is probably related to the fact that you just had a major surgery. I found that I had to eat very carefully for the first few weeks or I would also have some gastric distress. The instant I felt just a tiny bit full I stopped eating. I found that very small meals about 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 hours apart were just about right for me. Listen to your body and you should be ok.

I have had to take short afternoon naps, which is just fine. That might be helpful for you.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
