Does anyone take a Calcium citrate capsule instead of a chewable? I recently switched to a capsule instead of the Bariatric Advantage soft chews. The soft chews, to me, had too many carbs in each one and were a little pricey. I found some capsules at Vitamin Shoppe and they are easy to take. I just want to make sure that they are being absorbed. My Dr. said I could switch to a pill instead of a chewable but the pills were getting stuck.. No problem with the capsules though.

I tried a chewable from Vitamin Shoppe but I hated the chalky taste. Thanks for the info!

carbs can be a very bad thing indeed to overweight people. the brain uses very little in the way of added sugars or carbs, the body breaks down fats into usable compounds for the brain. That's the entire basis for losing weight and WLS surgery.

adding sugars to someone after WLS is the dumbest thing you can do.

My NUT recommends UpCal D. It is a flavorless powder. It's available in packets and a 20 oz. container. I found it on Amazon and ordered some. Want to be prepared for after my surgery 12/1.

In abundance carbs are bad but in a chewable Vitamin form.... That won't hurt.

why take in carbs when you don't have to.

My understanding also was that pills and capsules will not be fully absorbed as the chewable Calcium citrate would. The benefits of the calcium citrate outweighs the amount of carbs taken in...unless of course you eat an entire bag or container of the Calcium in one sitting, which you obviously would not do. Not trying to argue the point, but just saying that in the larger scope of things, the benefit would outweigh the risk.

Thanks for the feedback. It really isn't about the carbs I just trying to find an alternative to the chews. My NUT said I could switch to Citrical but the pills were getting stuck before. I'm call my NUT again to check. If I need to switch back to chewables I will.

Thanks to all for all of the feedback!

So I just checked with my NUT and was told that the capsules are totally fine - as long as I take 1500 mg per day in 3 - 500mg doses. or

It is very strange how different programs have different guidelines for the Vitamin regimen for the same surgery. I've read tons of posts where patients are taking Flintstone chewables and my program said they are a big no no! Thanks again for all of the feedback. Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
