Just a quick question for those of you that are horse owners... how long after banding were you able to get back in the saddle and ride? horserun.gif

Well..for me I probably did a no-no and got on one of mine about 1 week after surgery. I was showing him to a lady who wanted to buy him and didn't really have a problems. I didn't stay on long but when I went to my Dr. last Tuesday (2 days out from being 2 weeks post-op) I asked if I could ride and he said yes but not to be lifting the saddle. Basically I haven't had much time since then to try again. But everyone is different!!!! I was back to feeding and watering in a week (which horse people know is tuff) but please don't expect the same. Your body will tell you what you can and can't do!

Good luck and I'd love to talk horses sometime!!!

One of my weight loss goals is to ride a horse (never have, but do own a few miniature horses) I asked the same question in my pre-op education class and was told that each person is different, but it all depends on how well/fast you heal up, so I wasnt given a definite answer on how soon. But then again, at my wieght, I wouldnt consider even getting on a horse....poor horse would have a broken back!!...so, by the time I get my weight down enough to safely get on a horse, I should be healed enough.

Hi Mary!

You into minis too? I'd love to see some pics of them. I only have one but he lives the life of a KING! Maybe we can exchange notes!

Thanks for the input! I realize everyone is different, I just sort of wanted a general time frame. I haven't been on any of my horses in a few years. Not because I am too heavy for the horse, I am totally uncomfortable in my fat!

DollyRose..

I can totally relate to that. Last time I went trail riding I felt like my jeans were cutting me in half and any time we got up any speed my back fat (sorry for the visual) would bounce and it hurt. Only horse people can relate to this dream I have and that is to get on my saddle and there be some space between my gut and the saddle horn.

I have 2 horses too!! I had to wait about 8 weeks to ride. I tried at 1 month but was still to sore. At 2 months it was kind of hard getting settled in the saddle so my port didn't bother me. It took a little time to get adjusted, but well worth it. The port gets sore sometimes, but I just grit my teeth and go on. I ride about 5 days out of the week. I ride my 1/2 quarter, 1/2 paint to my walking track which is about 2 miles from my pasture. I walk my 3 miles, get back on Moose, and ride home. I also have a APQHA that I ride. He doesn't like traffic at all. So I mostly ride him on trailrides. We have alot of trailrides here in East Texas.

RIDE ON BANDERS!!! RIDE ON !!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
