Sleeve, Baby and Cancer

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had my Gastic Sleeve 30/6/2011, was pregnant 6 weeks later and had a beautiful baby boy. Lost weight throughout, baby fine and both of us apparently healthy.

In March 2013 I was done to 67kg, from 118kg and discovered I had Colan Cancer.

Since then I have had surgery, Chemo and am now tumor free. There is a 15-20% chance of it returning, and if it does then it will be terminal.

But my old "friend" weight gain is back and biting me hard, I have gained a lot and am back up to 83kg, and NOT happy.

That said my motivation is low, self loathing high. If only loathing = action!

I know I am eating too many carbs, sugar craving is high. Salads are perfect content, size is massive.

I have had every test under the sun ( they keep looking for cancer ) and this includes a gastroscopy and lucky for me I have not stretched my stomach.

Thoughts about a good diet to get back on track? I am eating my emotions, was drinking too much alcoal as a stress reliver and could certainly do to cut that out/back. Excersize has never featured in my weight loss to date.

My surgeon and I spoke last week and is not concerned about the re-gain, but I have kep a food journal and am meeting with his dietician in a couple of days.

It sounds like you know exactly what to do. Get off the sweets, stop drinking, eat your Protein first, don't drink while you eat, and exercise. Go back to basics. Don't overthink it. Exercise is great for preventing disease, too. Start walking NOW.

Yes I "know" some of what to do but am asking fur practical help, especially anyone like me who's been sleeved 3years ago or had cancer and dealing with the reality post Colin cancer. I'm a bit lost and have had a bad time, weight loss was not on my priority list.

Veterans assistance especially welcome or cancer patients. I'm new to site so can't post in or on veterans page.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
