Revision: 2 surgeries in one?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm a Bander since '07. Seeking RNY. I weigh about 360, 5'4". 48 year old woman. Am wondering if they can take the Band out and perform RNY at the same time. Or am I looking at a Band removal alone, wait six months and then do RNY? I have my "first" visit with my team again in 12. I just wanted to know if anyone had done the "2 in1".

It can be done in one surgery. I had a lap band done lost 85 lbs then get horrible acid reflex that required taking most of the Fluid out of the band.

I am revising to RNY on Nov 11 with one surgery to remove the band and do the RNY.

I am hoping it is not too painful since it is a longer procedure, wish me luck!

I had mine done in one procedure. I am now about six weeks post op from my revision. My surgeon told me he was about 50/50 on doing it all at once. It really depends on the tissue around the band. There was no way to tell until he was in there and could assess everything. I was scared to death I would wake up and not have the bypass done. I had a few bumps since surgery but feel great now. It's so nice not to be vomiting day in and day out. I had an awful time with my band and feel like a new person. They did tell me I would lose weight slower than people who didn't have the band and I've definitely experienced that. The day of surgery I weighed 200 lbs and now weigh 181. So I've lost about 19 lbs in six weeks.

Good luck with you appointment.

When I had my consult, the Dr said he had done some together but the risks for complications are higher. The area where the band was becomes fibrous and more difficult to suture. After having a few leaks, he has stopped doing them in one procedure.

Wow, I would have NO idea how to live w/o the Band. I mean, I basically am now as I eat and drink what I want. But I still kind of feel the Band. Does anyone know how long between a removal and the RNY itself? How do I diet with NO help?

The dr did mention that there was a time that could be challenging for eating because there is no restriction.

I had my surgery Band to RNY on 11/11 as scheduled. I was in the hospital two nights and have been home with no complications since.

It was a bit more painful than the band surgery but that is to be expected, but I am relived that it is over.

I feel your concern about not having any restriction, all the Fluid was out of my band and I basically had no restriction from January till surgery in November.

Good Luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
