Hi all!!!

This is the beginning of my Journey....Well I started this path back in March although I've been thinking about wls for a couple years. I never had considered it before. I thought it wasn't for me, it was too risky. I was that fat girl for so long that didn't feel fat. I had energy, I was fairly active. But then I got high blood pressure, diabetes and now my cholesterol is high too. With my sleep study I had to have for wls of course I was told I had apnea too. Let's not forget the aches and pains in my hips, knees, back, etc. Plus my energy level has dropped. I could literally nap anywhere! And to top it all off, I just don't FIT in this world. Everywhere I go is a thought process, frustration, worry, embarrassment. My surgery was originally scheduled for October 2nd. In the meantime, I was dealing with "feminine issues." I had to have an ultrasound which determined I had a "mass" that needed to be surgically removed. The plan was to do this a few weeks after my gastric by-pass and I set it all up. So I started my liquid diet and reached day 12. Then I had my pre-op appointment. I told my doctor that I needed to have this other surgery afterwards. He said No, it has to be done first, in case the mass were cancerous, I couldn't be in a malnourished state that gastric by-pass puts you into. I had a feeling going in that I would hear something like that. Well I was happy because I could eat again for awhile. I had the mass removed about a week and a half later. No cancer! I think that surgery really helped mentally prepare me for the "big one" and it's not hanging over my head anymore. So now I'm back on my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. It's just as miserable as it was the first time. But I'm glad to be back on track and am sooo ready for this!!

Thank God it's not cancer! I'm sure it was disappointing starting over (I know I wouldn't want to), but it sounds like you have a great attitude.I know what you mean about not fitting in the world - I want to scream every time someone shows me to a booth in a restaurant. I'm 100 lbs overweight - do you really think I'm going to be comfortable in your tiny booth?????

I am on the liquid diet too. It's no Bueno but I keep thinking positive thoughts and saying my prayers and it is getting me through. My surgery is on the 12th. When is yours?

I'm on the 13th. I bought a jug of Syntrax vanilla and I can't hardly stand it. I like the chocolate. I did that last time. I just can't afford to have 2 right now. I'm soo sick of sweet stuff already. The only thing that makes me happy are the sugar free Popsicles. I'm addicted to those things.

So I thought I would jump on and update. Had my surgery this past Thursday. It was not without complications and my 1 1/2 hour surgery turned into 4 hours. I came home from the hospital last night. I have to take it very, very slow. I am still on Clear Liquids only. I can only have Protein if it's clear and thin, like the Isopure. Right now it's hard to think about the weight loss that will be coming since I'm trying to process what I just went through. I can't say at this point I would take this route again, but I'm sure my perspective will change the further out I get. I hope everyone else is doing great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
