question for all you insurance savvy people.........

Does anyone know what will happen if you switch you insurance right before your surgery is scheduled? I was approved for surgery by my insurance company. They told me I was when I called a few days ago (but my doctor has not called to tell me yet.)They said that the surgery was approved for December 2-9. Unfortunately, because of the new healthcare laws we need to change our policy, although it will be still be with Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield. Our current policy ends the last day in November. Anyone know the answer?

Under the law they cannot exclude you for pre-existing conditions; nor can they deny you needed treatment. The problem may be that they require something different to authorize the surgery. Your best bet is to just call the new insurance company and ask them before you change

The doctor that I go to is already booking his surgeries into December. Maybe even January by now! Anyhow, his office has not even called yet to tell me that I was approved. I found out as an aside when I called the insurance company about a question concerning my daughters physical. That was a week ago. I am not too worried about it I guess. If its going to happen, it will. I was really just wondering if anyone else had the same thing happen and how it had worked out. Thank you for taking the time to answer my post though. I appreciate it. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
