I'm in full liquids phase, 11 days out. I'll be in puréed beginning Tuesday. Anyway, I've been allowed strained cream Soups during this full liquid stage, so my question is...can I maybe have broccoli cheddar Soup from Panera if I strain the chunks out? My daughter is wantin to go there to eat this afternoon. Thanks

I had some of the broth off of it a day or so ago. I am about the stage you are in. I was only able to eat a few spoonfuls. I would say just to be careful not to eat the chunks and in moderation.

I went to Panera at this phase and I had the butternut squash Soup (just make sure you don't eat the seeds they put on top) and a few bites of the broccoli cheddar Soup with the chunks strained out. I had maybe 1/10 of a cup and felt super sick. I also in hindsight remembered thinking that there was no way I got all those pieces of broccoli out with the strainer and probably shouldn't have eaten it. After the pureed stage was over I ate a lot of their chili during the winter, which I still like, however the creamy Soups are not something my sleeve tends to be a fan of.

Broccoli cheddar may have too much fat for this early stage and cause you problems. The butternut squash may be same - ask them for the fat content.

Personally I'd go with the onion Soup and not eat the onions.

You could also, if you take it to go, take one of those stick blenders to it at home to make it all the same consistency.

Obviously that is a personal choice.

You should really be asking yourself another question... Do I want to be success with my WLS?

Panera Cheddar n Broccoli Soup is not the best choice, Not if you are looking to loose weight. Although it does have a nice amount of Protein. It is way too high in fat for such a small amount of food. Not an optimal choice for our surgery, especially just post op.

Here is a pic of the nutritional value-

I got their chicken noodle. Less then 90 calories. I just chewed everything really really good and skipped most of the noodles. I could only eat half a cup.

I have not been to my post op follow up appt and have not been given a daily allotment for fat or calories yet. I asked my NUT at about a week out, and she said we would discuss it at my first post op appt. She told me to just concentrate on my Protein, Water, and the allowable foods in my program booklet for this phase (which includes strained cream soups). Of course, it is certainly my desire to be successful with wls, or I wouldn't have taken such a drastic measure. I've actually been incredibly successful thus far...I'm 12 days out and have lost 26 pounds....I'm extremely proud of my progress, and my mind set at this point in the game. I also wasn't aware of some of the other Soups on Paneras menu...chicken noodle is a fantastic pick, and I'll definitely get that when I go next time, as we never made it there yesterday anyway :) thank you all for your words of wisdom. That's why I'm here!

Their low fat vegetable Soup is really good too and they will give you mostly broth if you ask.

Jennifer Rogers great weight loss! I too have had some of the Soups at Panera ! When we only eat 3 bites it doesn't hurt anything! I am 6 weeks out and have lost 40 pounds and move into a full diet next week. A little nervous but am glad we have positive people to talk to on here to help with this process ????

Thanks to each of you so much! I'm loving these Bariatric Pal Forums. It's amazing how much I've learned since becoming a member. So much more than I learned through any of my pre-surgical appts and educational seminars. I don't think I could have been as successful as I've been WITHOUT you guys, here. Thank you all, again, for being here for me. :)

Can I just say that I know my program espouses low fat/fat free, but I do not count fat at all. AT ALL. You need a bit of fat for satiety. As a Type II diabetic my focus is trying to keep as low carb as possible (although now I'm oddly not sensitive to them anymore - and my A1C is 5.5%, which is totally normal. But I still focus on trying to keep under a certain amount of carbs per meal/snack). So having said that, I know if my Protein is high and carbs are low, fat is going to shake out somewhere in the middle. My personal take is that fat is not the enemy and does not cause weight gain like carbs do. Also, I don't want to start a debate or raise anyone's hackles or anything. But you can totally be really successful eating a moderate amount of fat in your diet.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
