Surgery 10/28/14

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! My name is Stacey, I'm 34 yrs old and just had the gastric bypass on 10/28/14. I was 271 when I started my journey, and I was 250 the morning of my surgery. I weighed myself when I got home, big mistake lol. I was 266! I didn't realize that all of the gas and fluids from the hospital would do that, I kind of freaked out! I weighed myself the next morning and it was down to 259, and I am trying so hard not to check it again until my first post-op appt.

So far I really have not had much pain, except for last night (Halloween) because I did a little more walking than I should have. The only problem I seem to be running into is that I'm not getting that "full" feeling that is always talked about. I am not really "hungry" either, but I'm worried that I'm not getting enough in my pouch, or that I will over stuff it. Anyone else feel that way?

hi I had my surgery on Oct 27th and have had an amazing recovery the only mistake I made was buying the wrong kind of nonfat yogurt! It wasnt sugar free and I hadn't experienced that "full" feeling either until I had about 4 spoons of that! Boy did I ever feel full and nauseous for the next 5 hours! !

Aww I'm sorry! I got the dannon light and fit, which I seemed to be fine with. Haven't really had any issues at all with anything yet, knock on wood lol. My only problem is that I am scared that I'm not eating enough. This is all so new and different from the way I ate forever, and it's probably all in my head lol

Hi Stacey! I had my RNY on October 23, and am experiencing some of the same things you are- I can't say that I feel "full", but I'm not really hungry either. I think a lot of what I experience is "head hunger"- seeing that Halloween candy and thinking I NEED it. The only difficulty I had really is learning how to drink again. I came home from the hospital and was so thirsty from the pain meds, I poured a big old glass of Water and took what I thought was a single, normal sized swallow- OW! It took me a couple of days to figure out how to judge what's appropriate for me to swallow now or it really hurts. I got moved to "mushy" food a couple of days ago and it was like the heavens opened up- all over Cream of Wheat! Congrats on taking this step in what I'm sure will be an amazing journey for both of us! :)

You must likely won't feel full at this point. Due to the surgery, the nerves being cut, the swelling, etc, your body doesn't seen to recognize the fullness at first. That's why it's critical at this point to measure and weigh everything and only eat/drink what your surgeon advised. That fullness will luck in soon. I think for me it was a couple weeks when the swelling had gone down that I started noticing it. I'm almost 4 months out now, and I can definitely tell you after eating small portions, you WILL feel full and satisfied fur probably the first time in your life. It's an amazing feeling!!

Congrats to you all too! I am starting to get the hang of it lol, I measure everything and follow the rules. Still no full feeling, but I know my limit. Drinking is still something I have to work on, cuz I'm a gulped lol. I get so thirsty and I just want to down a glass of cold Water, but having to sip is so frustrating lol. I had my first dumping last night, from sugar free pudding AND SUGAR FREE COOL WHIP! Omg it was the worst feeling ever! Good luck to you all! :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
