Are you feeling gas pain or incision/surgical pain? For gas pain, walk and move as much as possible and use a heating pad, and for most people it is gone within a couple of days. For the pain of surgery itself -- take more pain meds. You shouldn't be having pain that sucks -- don't be a hero and try to avoid your pain meds, either. Take as much as you need!

I had my surgery on the 25th and I felt no pain from the surgery but that bloody gas bubble was enough to make me want to strangle every single person that walked by my room. I walked as much as I could with that lovely IV drip and as soon as I got home I started to walk the neighborhood. My dogs have never loved me so much as they do now.

By the 4th day out I felt human and then for fun I weighed myself.

The pain is temporary and the number on the scale will make you happy.

Stay strong - and concentrate on getting home to feel better.

All the best wishes!

Ditto to above. If it's surgical pain ask for more Meds. If it's gas you've gotta walk walk walk. I really had no pain, just a little cramping from the drain and some bloated discomfort which walking helped with. I had surgery at 3pm and was coherent by 9pm. I intermittently walked and dozed all night and was out walking/shopping after being discharged by 9 am the next morning.

Just remember you had major surgery and that some pain is expected. That's what drugs are for! ☺️

3-5 days I'd say and then it's bearable, at least in my experience. Feel better!

Don't be afraid to ask for more pain meds if you need them. They kept me quite comfortable in the hospital so I was not in pain, just some discomfort. Hang in there! I am day 4 post-op and believe me, each day does get better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
