getting there

Recommended Posts

I'm so close to one-derland that I can almost taste it.

I got on the scale this morning and it said 200. Which means I've lost 60 lbs., which means I'm halfway to my goal. It just seems unreal! I didn't start losing until 4 or 5 months after my surgery, so I lost that 60 lbs. in less than 5 months. Which amazes me. Because that means that if I keep exercising and eating food for nutrition instead of comfort, I could conceivably be at goal by the end of March. It would be so great to Celebrate my birthday at goal weight! I'm trying not to get too ahead of myself, becuase keeping my expectations low is I think the thing that's helped me most in the past 5 months. And I know the closer I get to goal, the harder it will be to get those pounds off...but it's so exciting to know I'm halfway there!

Thanks everybody!

It does feel amazing to get that weight off. I keep buying new clothes and they keep getting too big. It's a waste of money, but it's exciting to keep buying smaller sizes =)

The best part is I'm only about 10 lbs away from being the lightest I've been in my adult life. I was at 190 a couple years ago and I look at pictures of me then and think, "man, I was so HOT!" I love that I'm almost there again, it's such a good feeling.

WooHoo

So many things about this thread I love.

One - I'm glad to know that it took you a while to start losing weight. You have no idea how much comfort that gives me! I hate being such a slow loser. I feel like everyone is passing me by (again!)

Two - I love the fact that you're seeing yourself as 'HOT' again. I know, I know - we're all supposed to be doing this for our health and to live longer, stronger lives and all that - but dang it - I miss being HOT and I want to be HOT again - while I'm still fairly young and single and can enjoy all the extra benefits of being HOT again!!

I'm with ya, Marie!

Three - Onederland!!! Yeah Marie! Yeah Marie! Yeah Marie!!

Michelle - you're so close, congratulations!

Kim - I'm with you. I'm 23 years old, damnitt, I deserve some hot years! =)

And for real, I was so frustrated in those months after my surgery when I wasn't losing anything. I was convinced the band just wouldn't work for me. And then I got yet another fill and suddenly it was like, holy cow! I'm losing weight! And the more weight I lost, the more I wanted to workout and be active, and that always helps too. So definitely do not be discouraged about being a "slow loser"!!

Thanks Marie - I appreciate that more than you know.

I am not one of those who experienced any type of restriction after surgery. I can eat anything! Kinda scary!

I'm just now at my one month mark. I need to make an appointment for a fill! Maybe then I'll feel like the surgery was more than just a strain on my credit cards!

Thanks again for your encouragement!

Hey, we geezers want to be HOT again, too -- and I'm not just talking about flashes. You're never too old to strut yer stuff!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
