Is it Wrong to want to lick a Chocolate scented Candle? ;p

Recommended Posts

Hi to Everyone!

I'm one week post-op today, and came across these forums as I while away my recovery time at home. All in all, I think I'm doing pretty well- off of pain meds and out walking 2 miles a day since 3 days post-op. I have to keep reminding myself that I didn't get this heavy in a week...I'm certainly not going to lose it in a week! I've got my first post-op visit with my surgeon on Monday & am hoping like crazy that I can be moved forward to delicious pureed food. I'm pretty sure at this point if I cut myself I'd bleed chicken broth ;p

I'm surprised at how well I'm not allowing the enormous bags of Halloween candy's incessant calls to me get under my skin, but I wont' lie- the smell of all the great food I still cook for my family (while I grapple with what kind of broth I want to indulge in each night) and the scent of some of my candles (hence the post title) really makes me miss the old life of "Want it? Eat it!" However, I'm stronger than that. And I'm sure there are others out there just like me. If anyone's interested in chatting, give me a holler, especially those who are contemplating RNY surgery and/or are at the same stage I am. Disclaimer: If you have a sensitivity or disapproval of an irreverent sense of humor, I might not be the best "pal" for you- I LOVE to laugh and find humor in just about everything! Good luck to all! :)

You're a lot nicer than I am! My surgery is 11/6 and I refuse to cook for anyone even at this point (liver shrinking diet). Not having kids probably makes that stance A LOT easier haha.

My mom has a "Buttered maple syrup" candle and all I wanted was waffles or pancakes or French toast while I was at her house. The worst part is the scent invaded my hair and clothes and I had to smell it all the way home! Haha. I'm hoping I crave less after surgery!

I lucked out. After surgery, while trying to keep up with all of the dietary changes, I was so full all the time I actually started loathing food. I even hated the idea of thinking about what to eat. Every second of every day was sip this, chew that, and it go so annoying. The first few weeks are rough while most things still could not be eaten, but after that once I hit pureed food I could incorporate it all into whatever I was feeding my family.

I don't mind an irreverant sense of humor sometimes so bring it on. If you need anything or have any questions don't hesitate to contact me through the links below.

I am definitely in the same boat! I am 5 days post op now, and I'm not exactly getting that "full" feeling, but I'm not exactly "Hungry" either. I did have a little trouble last night as a big bowl of Halloween candy was just staring at me lol, so I sucked on a sugar free Vitamin C drop for a few min. Other than that stuff, things seem to be going well, I haven't taken any pain meds since the hospital. I can't wait to move on to the pureed stage so I can eat egg salad or hummus, something that isn't juice or broth! I don't think I'll ever want to eat broth another day in my life after this week lol

Also my hubby made me this yummy Soup. Campbell's makes post-239200-1414863112757_thumb.jpg. He mixed it with green chili sauce and a few spices. It is very tasty. It is higher in calories but I can only eat 1/2-1 cup at a time.

I love the humor.... I too have licked something just for taste. I took to liquefying some foods near the end of my two weeks post op. Ever had a grilled teeny burger with a dill pickle that you could pour? looks awful but ..oh the taste.

In answer to the question Suze, will you be up to a sleep over.. well possibly. If you get up and move and get your Protein down you should be fine. I tire a bit easier at the moment but otherwise seem okay. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Anyway you have a while before surgery. If you can start walking now. The stronger you are the better you'll do..

I laughed out loud when I read this title. Then I read it out loud to my husband and he chuckled and said "no, that's not wrong" haha. Thanks for the laugh :)

I love your sense of humor! Your post title had me chuckling from the get go. :)

My surgery is on 11/12 so I am on the 2 week liquid diet. Thank goodness they don't make candles that smell like fried chicken! ;-)

I commend you for still cooking for your family. Thankfully I only have a fiancée, 3 dogs and 3 cats - so no cooking for me.

Best of luck on your journey and keep us posted!!!

Greetings, fellow humor lovers! I'm happy to say that I had my first post surgery doc appointment today and I was granted the golden key to "Stage 2 foods"! (insert dramatic music here) I put my foot in the proverbial pool by trying some oatmeal, mashed potatoes & Babybel Lite cheese wheels- not the best tasting cheese on the planet, but at 12 grams of Protein in 2 little 1-inch wagon wheels sounds good to me. I'm 8 pounds down and as a diabetic for a couple of years now, I'm off of ALL of my meds & my sugars have consistently hovered around 100 since the day I got home from the hospital.

Oddly enough, I seem to be a poster child (for a good reason this time) of a good recovery. 2 days on pain meds and that was enough for me. I've started walking an average of 2.5 miles a day since the third day home from the hospital & I'm down 8 pounds- not too shabby. :)

Halloween came and went with only a minor breakdown as the Almond Joys were calling me, but I didn't even lick that chocolate candle! I guess I'm so thrilled at remembering how to CHEW after over 3 weeks of just liquids I kind of forgot that chocolate used to be such a dear friend of mine. With any luck, I just may be able to have tidbits of Thanksgiving dinner this year- yay!

I'd love to talk with folks who are at the same stage of post-surgery bliss that I am, whether you're doing well or not. I'm a great listener & am able to find humor in just about anything- I was even able to laugh at the post surgery diarrhea fairy that visited for a couple of days last week. If any of you are looking for a lift, shoulder to cry on, or a "Jeez, does this happen to YOU" partner, hit me up :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
