slimgal2015 28 Posted October 31, 2014 Can someone help me - I am trying to figure out what pre-op tests are done prior to surgery? I am reading about EGD, what is it? when I asked my doctor's office about pre-op test they only mentioned blood work, chest x-ray and EKG....should I be concerned? Nicole Cloud 39 Posted October 31, 2014 the egd is done just to make sure everything is ok in your stomach, before they operate this way they don't run into any surprises hernia's, any sort of blockage cancer anything like that. if you surgeon does not do one I would not be concerned because all surgeons do different testing ie. I did not have an ekg but anyways they know what they are doing I would not fret over it

nprcowboy 533 Posted October 31, 2014 are you talking the 1 week pre-op / pre-admission tests or in general? I had an EGD about a month ago before they booked my surgery date which is the scope down the throat to look to make sure all is good for surgery, ie: no hernias or other issues etc... for my pre-op /pre-admission which I had yesterday 1 week before my surgery, they mentioned bloodwork, EKG and chest xray but only did bloodwork for me. I do see day of surgery they are doing another EGD though I guess to make sure stuff hasn't changed or maybe where to do the incisions?
