My surgery date is set for Dec. 1. I thought I was SOOOOO smart to wait till after Thanksgiving so I could have my "last" Thanksgiving. DUH!!! I forgot all about the 7 day pre-surgery liquid diet!!! Looks like it will be turkey broth instead of turkey for me. LOL. Guess it's as good of a time as any to start that part of the journey.

I actually had surgery the beginning of November last year and had to miss Thanksgiving entirely. During the time leading up to my liquid diet prior to surgery, my family was very helpful and we all got together to do a fake Thanksgiving. We had turkey with all the trimming and everything else I loved about the holiday and knew I would miss. This really helped me deal with not being able to eat anything when the real holiday rolled around. I spoke with my family and made a consious decision to miss Thanksgiving last year. I had to do the same thing with Christmas. I just knew that there would be too many triggers and tempations to deal with and I didn't want to open myself up to making a mistake.

Everyone is different. That is what worked well for me in my journey, but you may find something that works better for you. If you need any help or encouragement, feel free to contact me at one of the links below.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
