After coming home

Recommended Posts

I am trying to plan my coming home after surgery. I'm having gastric bypass. Do I really need someone with me that night?

Yes you do. I had shit go seriously wrong. You probably won't have shit go wrong but you need to have someone with you for at least 24 hours after anesthia

After surgery, I stayed in hospital for 7 days. After I went home my husband was there to help. Yes it really helps to have help. Your stomach will be sore so it helps to have a pillow handy to hug it. It helps with stomach pain.

I agree, I spent 2 nights in the hospital then went to a family member's house for one night. After that I went back to my house and was on my own. If I had to do it all over again, I would of stayed with family for another day or so. I had some obstruction issues ( I know, TMI!) that lasted a few days and were awful. I will say, I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday in a limited capacity. Best of luck!

It will be a major benefit to have someone there to help you for at least the first week after you get home. They can help you stay on track with medication, keep you company, and make sure if something were to happen, God forbid, you had someone there to help.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
