My Surgeon explained to me that you lose more with the bypass. You will also have dumping syndrome and malabsorption issues. You must also be 100 lbs or more over weight.

With the sleeve you don't have dumping and malabsorption issues as long as you take your daily Vitamins. Based on my weight and general health ( which is good ) he thinks the sleeve would be best for me. I want to lose about 70 lbs, so I'm not a candidate for the bypass says he. It's a lot to take in, explore your options and take your time.

You can help control Hair loss by really taking in the required amount of Protein. Several years ago I went thru a very stressful situation and lost tons of hair. I have really thick hair and it was noticeably thin. I saw a nutritionist and she said to drink or eat high amounts of protein, I did and within 6 mos my hair was back.

Dumping is painful but you find out real fast what foods you can't tolerate so you don't eat that again lol. Lots of people never have a problem with it. Our class nutritionist said always try new foods one at a time at home to figure out if that food will be a trigger.

I live in Ca USA. I had to take three months of nutrition classes and lose 10%. I did both. My surgery for the sleeve is Dec.3.

They have said I need to go on a liver shrinking diet first but they haven't been specific about a certain amount to lose. ... The health system here in England is different to you. .. we don't pay for health care. .. well I suppose we do to a certain degree as if you work you pay national insurance which comes straight out of your wages. It's a very expensive procedure over here but recently the health service has opened its doors. ... I'm very nervous but very very excited! !!! Your op is very soon then. ... What have you been eating?

My general practitioner was happy I had chosen the sleeve, as he had a patient that died after the bypass. :(

That's so sad! I personally wouldn't donthe bypass.... Too many uncertainties.... My surgeon said the death rate is only 2%. He said 50% of those are from blood clots. So I will be up walking as soon as I wake up.

The sleeve has a much lower mortality rate. With bypass, you can die a year later. It's scary. I am excited to get sleeved after the 1st of the year. :) nervous about the recovery, but a month is such a short time!! I think about how this time next year, I will be smokin hot! Loving to shop!! I can't wait to be able to wear normal clothes, and look good in them.

I pretty much eat just a low calorie diet..1500 calories to start back in June then down to 1200 around August.

My biggest challenge is giving up diet Coke. I love it! I have finally found a Protein I like to drink. That had me worried as I didnt like the taste of most of them. The liver shrinking diet is just regular food but less of it. I can't wait to see how your system progresses. My cost of the surgery is 250.00.

Soda contains caffein which itratates the stomach and can cause an ulcer. Also some drs say it stretches the pouch. Don't want that to happen????

Apparently the bubbles are an issue, too. I was instructed to not drink anything carbonated ever again, ever!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
