Wearing a medical bracelet after bypass surgery

Recommended Posts

I just got mine yesterday in the mail from www.laurenshope.com. I purchased one with interchangeable bands. Very pretty and very lightweight. I love it. post-235501-14161551135023_thumb.jpg post-235501-14161551360723_thumb.jpg

I looked at the Etsy ones, and there is nothing - no medical symbol (cadeuceus) - to identify it to medical personnel as being a medical alert, so no on those unless the Etsy owner will engrave. Instead, I ended up ordering two from Lauren's Hope! Beautiful choices!

You just request it. I am getting one, and different shops make them. You just have to look up medical alert bracelets. I saw a lot of them.

I already wear a medical alert because of severe allergies. I have so many there's no room to add anything else. I've been looking at the wearable usb instead.

This is such a good idea! After reading this thread, I ordered a Bracelet from www.laurenshope.com as well. With so many choices, it was hard to pick just one! How long did it take for your bracelet to arrive after you ordered?

How does this hold up? I was thinking of getting a new one because my current one has such a small caduceus symbol and it occasional falls off. I have the same lobster catch on my current. I don't want to spent money and still have to worry about losing the Bracelet.

The caduceus appears to be under a layer of lacquer. It looks well made, I don't have any fear of it breaking or falling apart.

I worded that poorly. The Bracelet occasionally falls off. I was wondering if I should get the interchangeable or a regular bracelet.

@@BLERDgirl - Both clasps feel really secure. They are very sturdy lobster clasps. You can also buy them which aren't interchangeable with one clasp and one fixed side. post-235501-14163485079501_thumb.jpg post-235501-14163485305376_thumb.jpg

Loriemoms, could you ask your husband if he's ever come across someone with a Bracelet you stick in the computer and get all the health info on? I wear one of those but also thinking about getting one with the info written right there in it since its quicker.

How do you like the one that you have? I have seen them online but never actually seen or used one.

I've looked at the USB bracelets and considered buying one, mostly because I can barely fit all my allergies on the back at this point. I've hesitated because I one of my allergies is life threatening. I've been hospitalized in a medically induced coma once and made many trips to the ER for IV Benedryl treatment. What if I am somewhere and the paramedic on site doesn't have access to a computer? I also carry a wallet card, but what paramedic is going to stop and search a wallet instead of immediately providing treatment?

This is the bracelet I currently have. I also have a small caduceus charm on it. I just think it looks too much like jewelry so I plan to upgrade soon.

I like it. It's not pretty like some of the bracelets are but I want it to be obvious it's a medical Bracelet, not a decorative one that I'm afraid they'll look over. I bought it at CVS. It's easy to put in all my medical history and updates. I biggest fear is getting in an accident and not being able to communicate that no med works on me for pain except for Demerol. The first thing they give is Morphine and it has no affect on me at all :( My bariatric dr refused to give me Demerol and made me suffer after surgery, even after me telling him morphine, diuludad and other pain meds don't work on me. I don't want to go through that pain again! Now I just hope they'll believe me and give me something that works. There's got to be something else besides Demerol that works on me but we haven't found it yet.....

Well I have an issue with demerol so I put no demerol on mine. I am liking mine so far. We will see. I had one years ago that I loved and somehow I lost it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
