What are you eating post op?

Recommended Posts

Hi there! My surgery is scheduled 11/12/14! I'd like to know... What's everyone eating the weeks after? I know what my books and doctor say, but I'm looking for some feedback representing the reality of post op eating! Any guidance is appreciated :)

For the first week post, i was eating clear liquids; drinking rather. I was allowed to progress to semisolid foods beginning the 2nd week post op. At that time my eating consisted of refrained Beans, low fat string cheese, yogurt, egg whites, sugar free pudding, 1% cottage cheese and various Protein fortified Desserts. I have been cleared to progress past semisolid foods at my discretion and will try fish today for dinner. Mahi mahi is one of my favorites!

I am 5.5 weeks post op (every day matters!). I am back to work and can eat a little bit of anything although raw veggies like baby carrots is not good. I am still relying on a Protein Drink of some sort to get in easy Protein but yogurt, eggs, and chicken are my mains. For Breakfast I had 1 egg and half a piece of toast. lunch and snack will be yogurt. I have had no slime incidents, but, came close with the carrots!!

I was sleeved 9/16. Down 41.5 lbs.

1st week was all liquids & Protein drinks per doctor schedule. Weeks 2 & 3 I was on purée foods. I made a few Soups n added plain Protein powder(was quick n easy) n had scrambled eggs whites, puréed chicken salad. I really stayed away from carbs . I'm in regular food now. Focus in protein and add Veggies n fruits . I use My Firness Pal to track everything. Being new, it helps me focus and stay in point.

Good luck!!!

First week post op was Water and watered down white grape juice and Isopure. 2nd week same but I added Protein shakes and Soups that I didn't have to chew. chicken Soup and what not.

Soft/puree- tuna with a LOT of mayo to soften it up, refriend Beans and cheese, chili with cheese and sour cream to thin it a bit, broccoli cheese Soup sent through a blender, ham and bean soup blended, beef stew blended (this is to remove any big chunks), mashed potatoes.

Then I graduated to meats, fish was less dense than beef, chicken or pork but everything went down fine. At the office we would order fajitas and I'd get a couple shreds of chicken, beef and pork, some refried Beans and cheese and mix them up. A few spoonfuls of that and I was good and full for awhile. I'll also take the insides of a taco or burrito and mix it with beans and have that.

I am nearly two years post op and my menu isn't that varied. I focus on Protein and produce. If it's a protein source and it grows, it's in my 'Box of food I eat'. I do try to steer away from starchy veggies and I don't eat a ton of fruit because it makes me crave. It IS high in Fiber tho so every once in awhile I have some.

. Sorry, finger hit the reply button.....Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement unflavored.

It has a little bit of flavor but not overwhelming at all. I'm a real picky eater too!

I use it in homemade shakes with the Nutribullet also. When I make the Soup, I add it in per serving before I heat it up so I can accurately measure how much Protein I am getting each time.

@auntjenny - what is a slime incident?!??

As I understand it, it is like throwing up but everything is all slimy.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
