First Surgeon Appt. today

Recommended Posts

I'm excited I have done the whole weight loss program and now finally get to go meet who will be my surgeon. For those who are not from Worcester, MA or have gone to different programs. In UMASS in Worcester you do your orientation, then intake followed by nutritionist visits ( I had 3) and Psych visit ( lucky for me only needed 1) and then your group meetings which here are 2 meetings. And in between all of this you are to go do any other requirements you were asked to do ( sleep apnea test, ekg, etc). After all of this then the weight center signs off and you will get a call from your surgeons office to do the first appointment with them. Which for me is today! YAY.

I'm excited, anxious and hope that he agrees with all that I have done and feels that we can submit so soon I may get my surgery date because I want to start the new me as soon as possible. I have worked hard towards it and feel that I deserve to be a healthier me. Can't wait to see what happens. Wishing and praying for the best. Always positive.

And just for an FYI. To all who have been posting your stories on here and have gone through the procedure and are going to go through the journey. Best of luck you all are inspiring many of us and helping us to continue forward with our own journeys and demonstrating that obstacles may come but in the end a healthier us will happen if we continue to push and move forward. Thanks for the motivation.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
