What do you eat on a normal day? Im worried :s

I wake up and exercise for 1 hour. follow that with

1 egg and a slice of american cheese

when I get to work about 7, a scoop of whey in my coffee

about 9, either a handful of rice crackers, peanuts and sesamie sitx or some of a small apple with Peanut Butter

lunch around 1115 is 1/2 a grilled cheese on P28 Protein bread (14g) or whatever leftovers are in the fridge. Today it's pork roast, about 3-4 oz.

dinner will prolly be the last of the pork roast.

IF I get hungry for bread, and I have room, I'll go for a frozen biscuit or crusty frozen dinner roll cause I can get just 1 "fresh". I don't really restrict carbs in maintenance though I do choose protein first most of the time.

Sometimes I'll add a veggie to dinner if I have room.

I'll have calories left at the end of today if I do the above and may go for a skinny cow ice cream bar or 100 mini bag of lite popcorn after dinner.

I was shooting for 1000-1200 calories (75+g of protein) while losing and 1300 (still 75+g of protein) plus whatever I earn from exercise in maintenance.

I'm surprised to see so much bread in these meal plans. I was told to avoid it completely until my goal weight has been reached. But I'm just a couple weeks post surgery. So I can't help much as I'm just starting soft foods. I hope to follow this for help later. Also I see a lot of lower weights than others. That will definitely make a difference in ur number lost.

I'm similar to you. 190 in June. Surgery on 6/17 and today down 42 pounds to 148.

Morning: Protein shake

Lunch: 4 - 5 bites of pork chop

Dinner: slice of meat stuffed pizza. Again only 4 to 5 bites.

Snack: maybe almonds or a cheese stick.

Treats: maybe 1/2 of a cookie or 3 bites of ice cream.

I eat whatever I want just in drastic moderation. I do eat the Protein first.

So if I'm having shrimp and spinach tortellini, I eat 4 to 5 shrimp and maybe two tortellini.

I don't grab fast food because I know if I wait until I get home I'll get full within a few bites.

Other things I eat often (again imagine I am eating the protein first)

Turkey sausage with Beans and rice

Beef stroganoff

Pork chops

Steak

Omlettes with meats and veggies and cheese

Tilapia with garlic and butter

chicken usually in cream sauce.

Spaghetti with meat sauce.

lunch meats and sliced cheeses.

I have a family of 6 at home and I'm the chef for them all. I just have to make smart choices for myself and separate the majority of the "empty" stuff.

I don't deprive myself though. I have nibbled everything I've wanted to. I have overeaten a treat and I was puking for an hour. Lesson learned.

Not too much exercise. Just started back to heated yoga!! I need to step that up.

So what is your typical day? I track on my fitness pal and weigh everyday. I feel great about myself and my decisions I make every day.

My doctor still wants me around 800 calories. I agree that is a lot of carbs. I would ditch the WW muffins, the pita, and the processed Subway lunch. I'd also swap fresh fish for the fish sticks.

I am 2 months post op and can easily eat 1100 calories a day. It worries me that I can eat as much as I can. I try really hard to concentrate on getting my Protein and fluids in every day and usually I do not have a problem with it. I feel like I am failing and I struggle to not be depressed about it. I read about others who can barely eat and that just makes me feel worse. I'm eating healthier than I ever have before but I still struggle to stay away from carbs. If I have a Protein shake for a meal it is like I haven't consumed anything and am still hungry. I've lost approximately 30 to 35 pounds but most of that was in the first month since then I have stalled. I also have problems with Constipation ever since the surgery. I dread going to the doctor and hearing what they have to say. Today I had:

Breakfast: scrambled egg with cheese in flax seed & wheat pita pocket

Snack: homemade weight watchers muffin

Lunch: Subway kids meal - ham, provolene on wheat with apple slices

Snack: slice of swiss cheese on crackers

Dinner: 2 fish sticks, half acorn squash, 1/2 c. broc. cheese rice

Snack: slice of swiss cheese on crackers

Here's my food for the day. This is my first time having mac and cheese since my surgery. For me this is a heavy carb day as I try to keep my carbs around 40-45gms. It's also my rest day from the gym as I do housework and generally chill on Monday's.

You might want to check with your nutritionist or medical team as to where you should be nutrition wise.

Different things work for different people. I am probably more what you expect... I am almost a year out and in maintenance but haven't had bread, Pasta or rice since pre op for the most part (tried rice once and about three slices of bread total). If I have carbs they are incidental from fruit, grains like flax, dairy, coconut flour, nuts etc.

I am impressed by those of you who can rate enough meat at a time to get 20-30g of Protein in a meal! I can do two thick slices of lunch meat (maybe three on rare occasion), three or four shrimp, or 2 ounces of turkey/fish/chicken/meat.

I use a lot of shakes and Protein Bars to get my Protein in.

For the original poster...

I like syntax matrix (PB cookie, vanilla, choc, mint cookie & vanilla) I mix one scoop with 8-16oz Water or 1% milk. Same with BSN Styntha-6 (Moccacino is my favorite!) I also like syntax nectar in Iced Tea and Roadside Lemonade (mix with 10oz water).

I also LOVE Quest Bars for protein.

I get all of my protein at GNC, The Vitamin Shoppe or on Amazon ????

I weighed 271 on the day of surgery. I am now 139 almost a year later.

I don't know my pre-surgery. I didn't weigh. So 190 one week pre op. And

My lowest weight has been 146 even.

However I'm over that because I have not had a good bm in a couple of days.

So I think I'm not going to call these stalls anymore. It's just slow weight loss from now on until goal.

I'm still not kicking the exercise up as much as I want. Ugh

How are you doing? What are your numbers now.

The day i was going to sleeve i was 214 right now im 160. (I had my sleeve May 30) i feel im going TOOOO slow! Im very sad

I think you may have unrealistic expectations. Starting at 214 you will lose slower than those who weighed more. And look at what you've lost!!! You have lost a quarter of your body weight!

Honesty many on this board would be happy with 160. How tall are you? If your ideal weight is 120 then that's 94 lbs. most surgeons are happy and consider it a success if you lose 60% of that which in your case is 56lbs. You are almost there.

And think of the health benefits you have already gotten! The closer you get to goal the slower and harder it is. Please look at how far you've come and the change in your life you've made!

Yea you can lose more, you do have to work for it harder though. But you are really doing quite well!

I would love to try that PB Cookie flavor, but it's not whey Protein Isolate, which the NUT at the hospital told me is the only kind I should have. You seem knowledgable....I assume this is still a good protein??

My diet was very simple. At 5 months, I was still having problems eating chicken, vegetables, fruit or breads. I created a concoction of refried Beans and finely ground turkey hamburger and ate on it for months... until Frankensleeve began to tolerate a wider variety of food. For my cheat foods, I allowed myself 1 or 2 tablespoons of peanutbutter per day. (I could have eaten much more easily, it was too easy to eat). Every Saturday, I ate out with friends and allowed myself whatever I wanted for that meal. I wasn't able to eat much more than a total of 4 or 5 ounces all together, but I allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted.

I've done a lot of research and trial and error for what works for me...I do believe that Caesin is as important for my success as whey isolate. It's what bodybuilders use for a "slow burn" as someone said in another thread, and it keeps me satiated much longer.

collagen? I'll pass. But Whey concentrate and Caesin and among those recommended by my doctor and I have had great success with them. On top of that, Whey Isolate alone often makes me nauseous, so a blend works best for me.

But I am NOT a medical professional. You chose your Dr because you trust their medical opinion. I defer to your doctor. However, I suggest you ask specifically about the particular product you are interested in and bring a copy of the nutrition label (you can find it on Amazon or GNC or Vitamin Shoppe online to print out) rather than just accepting a blanket "nothing but Whey Isolate" statement.

Once I started exercising I set my calories as high as I could and still lose slowly. 8ish pounds per month was about my average. My biggest concern was long term, setting my metabolism in a place that would enable me to maintain this weight loss for a life time. I ate between 1000-1200 calories per day during my loss phase and did not eat back the exercise calories. My maintenance calories are closer to 1700 and I do try and eat most of them back. My typical loss menu...

1 egg with a slice of cheese 6am

Scoop of whey in my coffee 7:30am

A couple of handfuls of snack mix containing Protein or a cheese stick or some nuts 9:30am

Chipolte carnitas taco 11:30 am (about 211 cal, 13g protein)

1/2-1 Protein Bar 2pm

1/2 cup of chili for dinner

100 cal bag of popcorn if I wanted a snack later

I'd try and alternate my calories between 1000ish and 1200 day to day so I'd not get stuck in a rut. With the 2 Protein supplements I pretty much always get 70-80g of protein per day. I did lose slow and steady most weeks, (there were a few stalls, my worst being at 3 weeks out).

Today in maintenance, I eat a lot of the same stuff, just a few bites more or with a handful of cheese, or add a skinny cow ice cream bar at the end of the day, or a glass of wine or 2 at a party. It's enough to slightly bump my calories so I can maintain.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
