well, you can cover it in cheese...at least in the beginning...and then add less and less cheese so you can stand it...but I'd say try green beans... low sugar, etc...almost as good a broccoli or spinach...always an excellent choice

I put a little olive oil, salt and pepper on it. Put some parchment paper on a cookie sheet and roast it for 10 minutes on 375. It keeps the crunch and trays great.

To answer your question about making broccoli you can steam it, roast it, saute it, stir fry it, put it in Soup, purée it...just about anything. If you like cheese try one of the frozen broccoli with cheese sauce steamers. I happen to love broccoli!

I buy the green giant steamers and keep a variety in the freezer.

I can't stand broccoli, but love zucchini, so intent to incorporate a little in each meal. Try different veggies and find what you like. I use the ziploc steamer bags, and add seasonings like Mrs. Dash chipotle, or even just salt and pepper.

I haven't tried the chipotle seasoning since surgery since spicy food is a bit too much for me right now, but as soon as my tummy lets me I'm so seasoning my food more!

I try and eat veggies everyday...either fresh or frozen. My staples are Spinach, zucchini, green Beans, tomatoes, carrots, asparagus, artichokes, broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts. Once I hit goal, I've added in starchier veggies like squash, yams, corn, spaghetti squash, etc. I usually just steam them with salt and pepper but will also add a garlic butter sauce or cheese sauce sometimes. I eat some veggies raw with ranch dressing and of course I couldn't have an artichoke without hollandaise sauce!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
