Hello,

I have been on a roller coaster for if I will be able to get the sleeve surgery (funding). After many hoops, I have been approved and the nurse called me this morning to schedule surgery. It felt surreal.

Now that it is REAL, I am nervous about my choice. When I look at the pros and cons on paper, there is no other logical choice.

Is there someone out there with a BMI of 30-35 that can tell me that they have not looked back?

Definitely have NOT looked back. I am 3 years post-op, and could never ever ever have lost the weight in traditional ways. It changed my life. Read my blog.

Good luck!

QueenBeatrix,

I am closing in on a year from surgery. My life has totally changed FOR THE BETTER.

I used to take prescription Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, (NSAIDS) TWICE a day. I used to dread having to stand in line at the grocery store because my back and knees would hurt like Hades. I used to be only able to enjoy watching TV sitting in my Lazy Boy. Moving used to hurt. The only way i could get any exercise was in a pool.

i used to look at myself in the mirror and be disgusted with myself.

NOW I have trouble keeping clothes on my ever shrinking body!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT a complaint. Just a statement of fact.

I can walk around the parking garage on breaks and during lunch and ENJOY it :)

I'VE BEEN CALLED SKINNY!!!!!!!!!!!!! for Pete's (or anyone else) sake! :):D

Men have lingering and much more lengthy looks at me ;). I have a husband I dearly love and HOPEFULLY he will have the surgery soon.

It's not all sunshine and unicorn farts though. I went through some dark months adjusting to this new body. I used my faith, exercise and counseling to get through them.

I'll say this--I'D DO IT AGAIN in a heartbeat to live the life I have now. I am now LIVING not existing from the time I shoveled food in my mouth to the next time I shoveled food into my mouth.

All I can say is b-r-e-a-t-h-e. Take it one day at a time and have confidence in the medical technology we have in 2014.

I truly hope you have a routine easy surgery and an easy recovery.

Blessings,

Kathleen

I began with a BMI of 33 and I have not looked back for a moment. I am in my 60s, had no problems, and I feel a lot better.

never, never, never look back...moving forward is all I think about now... it's ALL good... you will feel that way soon as well.

This is an emotional time, we are here for support...but that's why the doctors want you to see a therapist...to help with perspective and what you THINK is going to happen versus the reality of it all.

After you are all done and healed up, you will know it's the best thing you've ever done for YOU! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
