Too good to be true! Today is my one week surgeversary. I was 247 when beginning my two week pre op "torture", and I was down to 237 the morning of my surgery. Today, I am down to 229!!! I have had the easiest recovery and transition period that anyone can imagine. I had a large hiatal hernia repaired during my sleeve surgery, which added a bit to my post op soreness, but I was up walking two hours after I was out of recovery. I have been walking 3 miles a day since coming home, and haven't had to take any pain medicine since leaving the hospital. I have had no problem getting my daily Fluid or Protein in, I've developed a new taste for yogurt (ABHORED IT BEFORE). The only thing I've had even the slightest issue with is Jello. I love it, but I think its just too thick for me at this point. Two bites is about all I can handle before it triggers my full feeling. I have had zero cravings and no real hunger, let alone head hunger. food doesn't interest me in the slightest although I know I need to eat to live. Before surgery, I wasnervous that tv would trigger head hunger/cravings. Last night it seemed that every commercial was for food or the holidays. Believe it or not, my reaction was quite the opposite. I almost gagged over some things that USED to be favorites of mine. I also began thinking about serving sizes, and how in the world we get to the points in our lives that a SERVING isnt enough. It was a measurementthat was developed for a reason...its all we need to give our bodies fuel. Why and how did we begin thinking we had to clean up our plates that was loaded down with enough "servings" to feed 4 people?!?!? How gluttonous!! At this pount, it makes me physically sick to remember my eating habits...so sad that i never connected the dots before. I don't know what I expected after the procedure, but I certainly didn't assume it would be an easy journey...and it may not always be, but for the present its been a walk in the park. I am BEYOND blessed and I'm so grateful for this opportunity to get healthy and LIVE again. Good luck and prayers going up for each of you on this journey along side me.

Hi Jennifer. I too am one week post surgery. My experience hasn't been as smooth or as painless, but I'm feeling good right now. Unfortunately right after the sleeve, and for several days all I had was nausea and vomiting. For the most part that has passed, and I'm now in reflective mode. I too was giving thought to portion sizes, and the kinds of foods we were putting into our bodies. It is little wonder that we ended up in the shape we were in, and even more surprising is how we are still alive and in relative good health.

I find I'm curious as to how you are tolerating your Protein, and hydration. For whatever reason my body is not tolerating any of the Protein drinks. I was using a mixture of 3 different ones prior to surgery. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury (all flavors, and the unflavored), Isopure Zero Carb (looks like Kool-Aid), and EAS Carb Control (chocolate and vanilla). Now I am able to sip about 6-8 times before my stomach won't take anymore (except the Isopure, one sip and it comes right back up). Within seconds my stomach starts grumbling and gurgling, and within about 10 minutes my body purges it, either up and out, or down and out. I'm not sure what else to do to get my Protein in. Right now I'm using Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added) mixed with Skim Plus milk, and that is giving me like 15-17 grams per serving, although it can take me well over an hour to get an 8oz serving down. I'm also eating Greek yogurt and cream Soups made with the high protein milk. My post op DR appt is tomorrow and I'll mention all this to him, but I thought maybe you might have experienced some of this? Any suggestions you can think of? Thanks a lot and great luck to you. I'll be checking up on you as well. Take care :)

@@Jennifer Rogers, i am glad you are having an easy recovery! The profound lack of hunger still surprises me. I've been learning to listen to my new anatomy and feel what its telling me. So far so good. Good luck to you on your journey.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
